Chapter 377
Calvin’s words sounded like he was standing up for Emily, with a touch of pity in his voice.
But to Emily, his words just made her break out in goosebumps for no reason. She frowned, shot Calvin a long look, then coolly looked away.
She turned to Isolde and said, “Let’s go to the hospital.” Then she glanced at Austin and said, “I’ll leave the rest to you.”
Austin nodded. His smile didn’t change, but his eyes softened. “Don’t worry, Emily. I know what to do,” he said.
Emily didn’t say anything else. She just left with Isolde. Throughout the entire time, she didn’t spare Calvin a single glance- she didn’t even show the slightest hint of gratitude for his stepping in to help.
She wasn’t stupid. Given how much Austin cared about her, he probably would’ve come running the second he picked up something was off through the bug, no matter what the plan was.
She could tell that if it weren’t for Calvin, she and Isolde wouldn’t have been in that mess in the first place, and Austin would’ve been the one to show up and save her.
And Calvin’s words-they sounded like he was sticking up for her, but Emily knew he was trying to drive a wedge between her and Austin. So she decided to just ignore Calvin completely. She thought, ‘This person feels strange.’
Noticing Emily’s attitude, Calvin’s eyes darkened. His expression barely changed, but his whole vibe instantly went cold.
His assistant, Frank, seemed to sense it and instinctively took half a step back. Having worked as Calvin’s assistant for so many years, he knew exactly how angry Calvin was right now.
And whenever Calvin got angry, someone was bound to get screwed over.
Unlike Frank, who was clearly on edge, Austin was actually in a great mood. It was as if all the bad feelings he’d had just from seeing Calvin earlier had completely disappeared.
He grinned and said, “So after all these years, this is the first time your little tricks didn’t work, huh, Calvin? Bet that feels just wonderful, doesn’t it?
“Honestly, I’m dying to know how you’re feeling right now. Why don’t you paint me a picture?”
