Goodbye, Mr. Ex: I've Remarried Mr. Right novel Chapter 1958

Their tough attitude surprised me but allowed me to get a glimpse of my family's past.

These weren't the roughnecks I knew.

"Lock them up," Ben said flatly.

"Yes, sir." The guards quickly grabbed us.

I tensed, realizing that if we let them cage us, we were done for. I exchanged a look with Solomon, and we leaped into action.

We'd only let them catch us so we could see our parents. Since that wasn't happening, we were not going down without a fight.

Ben paused, finding our moves familiar.

As we duked it out, a woman's voice cut through. "Stop!"

It was clear and crisp, with an edge that demanded respect.

I spun around, and there stood my mom. She wore a bold red dress, her hair loose to her waist. Her makeup was flawless.

She looked way younger than I remembered. For a moment, I was amazed by her vibrance.

Lost in awe, I didn't see a fist coming. Solomon yanked me back just in time, or I'd have lost a couple of teeth.

"Didn't you hear me? I said stop," Debra snapped, her gaze slicing through the guards like a blade.
