Chapter 649: Why are you so scared of telling me the truth?

While Aiden and Arwen slept peacefully in each other’s arms, it was chaotic in Selene’s room.

Returning, she could no longer hold back. The calmness she had forced herself to master felt long forgotten, like she never knew it.

"Arhhh!" she roared, tearing off the pillow in her fit of frustration. "How dare she play me? How dare she?"

Carl stood in a difficult spot. She didn’t know what she should speak about or how she should calm her down. The way Selene seemed to be losing, it scared her ... scared her for her life.

"M-Ms. Selene, please calm down. That woman is not worth it. She —"

"She is not worth it, yet she sits beside Aiden like she owns him." Selene hissed again, fisting a cushion in her grip and then hurling it on the floor. "How dare she, and under what capability?"

Carla flinched and instinctively took a step back. "Ms. Selene, please calm down, or you will hurt yourself." Her words were laced with extreme worry.

However, Selene had no care. She didn’t care to even acknowledge it. All her thoughts were just going around what had earlier happened at the dining table.

"She did it deliberately. She deliberately made me think that I won when she actually planned to turn the tables on me." Her fingers clenched when she remembered the words of the mere servants laced with mockery for her. And she lost it all over again.

Throwing another cushion on the floor, she roared. "How —how vicious?" She then turned to look at Carla and reached for her hands to tug her forward. "Tell me, Carla, how could Aiden not see her viciousness? How could he still bear to love her when she is some kind of fairy, the most eligible in this world? How?"

Carl felt Selene’s nails dig into her skin. She winces, and pain twisted her expression, but Selene was too lost in her emotions to even notice.

"Is it just because she made him fall for her when I hadn’t even met him?" she asked. She believed that if she had met him earlier, maybe in place of Arwen, it would have been her. "How am I at fault that I didn’t meet him early? Why didn’t he ever try to love me the same, even once? How am I beneath that ... that Arwen?"

As she finished her words, her grip only intensified around the nanny’s wrist.

Carla’s face paled, and she could no longer bear it. Her old bones were too weak to bear such a force. Reaching out, she hesitantly tried to unclasp her hand, but Selene barely moved.

"Ms. S-Selene, you aren’t beneath anyone. You are the young miss of the Martin family. How can you be beneath anyone?"

And that felt reassuring.

"Yes, I am the daughter of the Martin family —the only family that could stand shoulder to shoulder with the Winslows. There is no way I could be beneath anyone." But then she turned to look at Carla and asked, as if she couldn’t understand. "Then why is he treating her better than me, Carla. Why can’t he see that Arwen has nothing to deserve him?"

"Because she is pretentious," Carla said, her eyes darkening with hostility. That woman is pretentious. She is pretending in front of Young Master Winslow. Just as she pretended earlier at the table."

Selene paused. Her brows furrowed. She didn’t like Arwen, but one thing that she believed was that Arwen wasn’t pretentious.
