Arwen looked up at his face and suddenly, realization dawned upon her.

Aiden’s mother was sick, and it was for her treatment that he had decided to return to the Winslow family.

Could something have happened to her that day as well that he had to rush to her side?

"You still don’t believe me?" Aiden’s voice suddenly snapped her back.

Blinking, she shook her head. "No, I do believe you," she said, "I never distrusted your words. I was just thinking about something else."

"Really?"

She smiled and reached out to frame his face with one hand. Then tipping up on her toes, she leaned in to press a small kiss over his lips. "Really. Do you believe it now?"

He stared at her and nodded.

"Good that you do. Otherwise, I don’t have any other way to make you believe me. After all, I am not a smooth talker like you."

"You don’t have to because no matter what you say, I would believe it."

"Really? Even the lies?" she asked, arching her brows in faint curiosity.

However, he nodded very seriously. "Even the lies."

"That would be scary then," she said, frowning a little. "What if someday I don’t want you to believe me? What if I lied deliberately to put on a pretense in front of everyone? If you believe it as well, won’t my plan turn into a failure?"

When she said that, she looked adorably serious. Aiden couldn’t help but smile. He glided the back of his finger along the line of her nose before tapping the tip.

She scrunched her nose and was about to speak when she heard him say.

"You won’t fail," he said, and she blinked.

"How so? If you believe even in my lies, I am doomed to fail. Am I not?"

He shook his head. "With me on your side, you will never fail."

"But you said you would believe even in my lies. If you do that, wouldn’t it only make you misunderstand me?"

"It wouldn’t," he said, pitching her cheek. "All you have to do is speak it all while looking into my eyes."

"In your eyes?" she repeated, intrigued. "What will change with that?"

"I will see through your plans. And once I do, there will be no misunderstanding."

"Really? Will it be that simple?" She asked, her eyes slightly narrowing.

However, he seemed quite confident. "It’s always been that simple between you and me."

"Fine, we will see when that happens." She said, crossing her arms, and he just shrugged.

Just then, a knock at the door interrupted. When they turned to look, it was Emyr there.

"Sir, Mr. Thompson has left. Do I ask Neil to bring the car to the entrance?"

Aiden turned to glance back at the table once before turning to Arwen to ask, "Are you full, or do you want to eat anything else?"
