It had been half a year since their last meeting.
During this time, Manfred had grown up, now appearing fully capable of taking charge—a commanding head of the family radiating an air authority.
In contrast, Zea and her son were even more downtrodden and emaciated than they had been six months ago.
Their faces were sallow, and when they saw Manfred, they froze as if struck dumb. All the words they had prepared vanished in an instant.
"Do you know why I'm here?" Manfred's voice was icy, colder than the biting winter air.
Zea quickly regained her composure and forced a smile, speaking ingratiatingly, "Manfred, have you forgiven me? Have you also forgiven your younger brother? We've suffered so much these past two years and truly realized our mistakes—really!
"I was a fool before, truly foolish. You were such a good child, Manfred. How could I have treated you that way? I'll make it up to you and atone for my sins."
"Yes, yes, Manfred! I was wrong too! I'm your only younger brother, after all! I was immature and didn't know any better back then.
"Now I've grown up and realized how terribly wrong I was! Look at me—I'm so pitiful and hungry. I loved women so much, but now I can't even be a man anymore! Look at my suffering.
"You must have calmed down by now, right? Please, let my mother and I go!" Cyril, who had once been defiant and arrogant, now seemed subdued.
Facing the slim chance of escape from this living hell, even if he burned with hatred for Manfred, he buried it deep inside.
Two years of torment had reduced the once-proud mother and son to this state of submission.
Pride meant nothing now. Survival was all that mattered. Revenge could only be achieved after escaping.
Manfred looked at the two kneeling before him, his face devoid of any emotion. "Let you go?"
"Yes, yes! Forgive us, and it's as good as forgiving yourself. If you repay evil with virtue, we'll devote our lives to serving you, really!" Cyril quickly chimed in.
Zea glanced at Manfred and felt a deep, inexplicable unease. Something about his demeanor didn't match the idea of forgiveness. She clenched her teeth, trying to suppress her fear.
"Manfred, no matter what, I'm still your aunt, a member of the Holland family. I truly realize how terribly wrong I was in the past. Can't we reconcile?
Today, they knelt before Manfred. But tomorrow, he would kneel before them!
Manfred suddenly pulled out two black pills. "Take these, and I'll let you leave Vlario."
He couldn't risk Vivian living in the residence and constantly being disturbed by their screams.
The mother and son looked at the pills with suspicion and alarm.
Zea hesitated. "What kind of pills are these?"
"They're not poison, are they?" Cyril instinctively shuffled backward on his knees, terrified of death.
Manfred's eyes turned dark. "If you won't take these, then you can take the knife instead."
With that, he pulled out a dagger.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
