Simona found herself at a loss for words.
It was clear to her that Wendy had become deeply attached to Aiken. As for Aiken, he seemed to care about Wendy as well.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have allowed Simona to learn about their current relationship. Some of the people around him even knew of Wendy's presence in his life.
Still, Simona couldn't shake the feeling that if things continued as they were, Wendy would ultimately be the one who hurt the most. However, matters of the heart were something only those involved could truly understand.
In the end, only Wendy could decide for herself.
As for Simona, all she could do was occasionally try to talk some sense into Aiken. She hoped he would take their relationship seriously and make up his mind about marrying Wendy sooner rather than later.
…
At the golf course, after finishing a game, a group of men sat down to rest, sipping tea while casually discussing a joint business project.
No one paid much attention when a graceful waitress brought over their tea.
That was until one of the men squinted and remarked, "Wait, aren't you Mr. Rowe's assistant? What are you doing here as a waitress?"
The casual comment drew everyone's gaze toward Elsie. Joe, seated among them, also cast a cold glance her way.
Several gazes landed on Elsie at the same time, making her feel very nervous. Elsie swallowed hard. She could feel a tingling sensation on her scalp as she sensed Joe was also looking at her.
At least her efforts hadn't been wasted. It had taken careful planning to get hired here.
After all, Alban had mentioned that Joe came to this golf course three or four times a month. Many people frequented this spot for business discussions, and Elsie had placed her bet on this habit of his.
A man like him, standing at the top of the pyramid, was exactly the type of man she should be drawn to.
Other men around her seemed insignificant in comparison.
At first, the other CEOs had been interested in Elsie. She was young, stunningly beautiful, and had an innocence that triggered their instinct to protect. But with that protectiveness came other, less honorable intentions.
However, it was clear from the way she acted that Elsie's interest was solely focused on Joe.
Young women just entering society often had no hesitation.
But for those who knew Joe well, they understood this pursuit was futile. Still, sometimes, things had a way of turning out differently than expected.
Half an hour passed.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
