The faint aroma of coffee filled the air. Even before taking a sip, Simona felt the jet lag melting away.
"What do you feel like eating after coffee? A new Thaspia restaurant opened nearby. It's pretty good," Wendy suggested in her soft, soothing voice.
The gentle question carried a comforting warmth. However, Simona didn't have much of an appetite. "I ate something before I came out, so I'm not very hungry. Are you? If you're starving, I don't mind grabbing something with you."
"I'm not really hungry either," Wendy said with a gentle smile.
Much like Simona, Wendy had eaten before heading out. There was always plenty of bread and snacks at home. Whenever she felt a pang of hunger, she would snack on something, often to the point of forgetting regular meals.
"Wendy, we've been good friends for so many years. We practically have no secrets from each other, right?" Simona wasn't just here for a casual chat today. She wanted to clarify some things—things that had been troubling her.
Aiken's attitude left her deeply unsettled.
Wendy felt her heart skip a beat. She looked down, a bitter smile tugging at her lips. "You've figured it out, haven't you? About me and your brother?"
When she received Simona's invitation to meet, Wendy suspected this might be the topic. After all, Simona had only just landed last night. Normally, she would rest for a couple of days at home before going out. This urgency was uncharacteristic.
"Yes, have you thought this through? Aiken… he's not a good man for you. He doesn't want to marry you. He hasn't even told me that you're his girlfriend. Do you really think he'll treat you well in the future?"
Simona wasn't trying to hurt Wendy. These were just hard truths that Wendy had to face.
Simona knew Aiken better than anyone. A few years ago, he had been infatuated with Skylar. However, that relationship was destined to go nowhere.
Simona's eyes reddened as she listened. Her heart ached for Wendy.
"You're amazing, Wendy. Why would you fall for Aiken? Why waste your time and youth on him? I'm not saying he's a bad person, but when it comes to relationships, he's not the kind of man you can count on for a lifetime. Unless he changes his mind and wants to marry you, your relationship will always be uncertain."
"I've spent two years thinking about us. Not long ago, I even tried to break things off. But it hurt too much. Eventually, I realized that I loved him too much to let go. So, I've chosen to accept the way he approaches relationships," Wendy replied, her tone laced with bitter humor.
Perhaps Aiken was the one obstacle in her life she could never overcome. Years ago, he had saved her from the depths of despair, and now she willingly let herself sink into the whirlpool of emotions he created.
Simona's chest tightened as she listened. "You… I…"
"I know you're worried about me, but don't be. Other than the fact that he won't marry me, he's been good to me these past few years." Wendy reassured her, forcing a smile.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
