My Birthday, My Downfall novel Chapter 50

After the phone was hung up, they exchanged a look, both seeing the terror in each other’s eyes.

“Darling... did you hear... the gunshot?” Dad asked Mom in a quivering voice.

Mom’s face turned as pale as a ghost, her lower lip trembling.

“Yes... it was a gunshot.”

“Not good! Charlotte is in trouble!”

Both of them realized what had happened and screamed out. Dad immediately tried calling the kidnappers again, but the line wouldn’t go through.

They were completely panicked.

“Call the police now!”

When the police arrived, they found Dad staring blankly at his phone, looking lost and in despair.

After giving their statement, they happened to encounter Mia returning.

The moment she saw Mom and Dad, instead of comforting them, she immediately started yelling at them in fury.

“Five million, and you took this long to raise the money? You made me worry for half an hour!”

In the past, when Mia threw a tantrum, my parents would pamper her. But this time, they didn’t try to console her.

When Mia noticed Dad’s bloodshot eyes glaring at her, she instinctively took a step back.

At that moment, James entered with the police and stood in front of Mia, choking up.

“It was her who planned the kidnapping! I heard her tell Charlotte that she wanted to test whether Uncle and Aunt love her more or Charlotte!”

At these words, Dad’s phone slipped from his hand in shock.

He immediately rushed at Mia, grabbing her wrist with a fierce glare.

“Is what he said true?”

Mia, who had never seen Dad so terrifying, immediately broke down into tears.

But she was more scared than anything else, remembering how in the past she would act pitiful when she made mistakes.

Now, she tried the same tactic again, crying in a pitiful tone.

“Dad, you scared me! I’m your most beloved daughter!”

But this time, she miscalculated.

Dad yelled in fury and shoved her to the ground.

“I’m asking you a question! Did you plan this kidnapping?”

Mia instinctively nodded, then shook her head.

“Dad, you didn’t use to be this harsh with me. Don’t you remember? You and Mom always loved me the most.”

“It’s because of you, this poisonous woman! You killed your own daughter!”

The police were immediately confused.

James was furious.

“It was her! She called me, telling me to leave Charlotte and be with her other daughter. She even revealed her wealthy background and said I should marry Mia and join the Parker family, living a life of luxury.”

“After I refused, she tricked me, saying Charlotte wanted to meet me at a KTV. As soon as I entered the room, I was held down by a group of people Mia arranged, forced to drink.”

“If Charlotte hadn’t arrived in time, I... I...”

He glared at the family with resentment.

“If it weren’t for that, Charlotte wouldn’t have been kidnapped!”

“Charlotte has suffered so much. She’s mature for her age, works hard, and has two jobs in college. She works as a waitress during the day and delivers food at night. She did this just so she wouldn’t burden her family.”

“She’s an excellent student, planning to study abroad using scholarships and money she earned, so that her parents could live a better life. But what about you, her parents? You’re rich, but you pretend to be poor. Isn’t that exhausting?”

“Charlotte has been ridiculed and bullied in college for being poor and having scars on her face. She could only bear it silently, secretly crying in the bathroom at night.”

“You don’t deserve to be parents! You’re demons!”

By the end, James crouched on the floor, holding his head and crying.

After hearing the full story, the police were all indignant, with the leading officer trying to contain his anger as he glared at Parker’s parents, continuing to question Mia for more details.
