Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle' novel Chapter 206

Chapter 206: I Won’t Help Her

Selina’s heart skipped a beat. "The call’s for you—why are you asking me?"

Logan chuckled softly, catching the faint note of jealousy in her tone. "Then I won’t answer it."

But the phone kept ringing persistently. Angelica clearly wasn’t giving up.

Selina tapped her chin thoughtfully. "What if it’s something important? Might as well take it."

Logan raised an eyebrow—and in the next second, the phone was already in Selina’s hand.

She picked up right in front of him, and Angelica’s soft, almost pitiful voice came through the speaker. "Mr. Reid, I’m sorry for calling so suddenly, but there’s something I’d really like your help with..."

The car went silent. Jack practically stopped breathing. Logan looked on, amused, curious how Selina would handle it.

Selina narrowed her eyes and clicked her tongue.

With a sugary tone laced in obvious mischief, she replied, "Angelica sis, what is it?" freewёbnoνel.com

There was a pause. Angelica’s voice sharpened immediately. "Why are you answering?!"

Selina blinked innocently. "I’m just helping my husband pick up his phone—isn’t that normal?"

Angelica clenched her fists and sucked in a breath. "If Logan’s not available, then never mind."

"Why never mind? You can say it. Or is it something I’m not supposed to know?" Selina rested her chin on her hand and called out sweetly, "Logan, Angelica’s being weird. She insists on talking only to her brother-in-law. Doesn’t trust her own sister?"

Angelica’s voice shook. "Mr. Reid... is right there with you?"

Selina passed the phone to Logan. He glanced at it briefly. "Miss Clark, what is it?"

Angelica’s expression twisted. With Selina listening in, how could she bring up what she wanted?

"I’m sorry, Mr. Reid... it’s nothing. Since you’re with Selina, I’ll just—"

Click. Selina hung up before she could finish.

On the other end, Angelica heard nothing but the dial tone. Furious, she hurled her phone across the room.

She gritted her teeth. Four years ago, it was me... Why does he still care so much about Selina?!

If I had known, I should’ve gotten rid of Selina back then...

...

In the car.

Selina tossed the phone back to Jack, and Logan, clearly entertained, asked with a faint smile, "Happy now?"

Selina blinked innocently. "Happy about what?"

Of course she wouldn’t admit she was pleased. But how could she not be? Watching Angelica lose her composure was always satisfying.

Logan looked away, saying nothing.

Jack cleared his throat. "Sir, Miss Clark probably called about the situation online."

Selina perked up.

Angelica’s plagiarism scandal must’ve blown up by now. Even though Shareholder Taylor had taken the fall, it still had to have damaged her image. She probably wanted to leverage Logan’s influence to shut it down.

Selina coughed lightly. "Mr. Reid... you’re not going to help her, are you?"

She tried to sound casual, but the nerves were there.

After all, Angelica was supposedly Logan’s "savior." Who knew if he’d go soft on her?

But it had always felt strange to Selina. Angelica—who clearly wanted her dead—had gone out of her way to save someone? Sounded fake.

Something doesn’t add up...

A sharp brake jolted her thoughts. Selina hadn’t braced herself and lurched forward, nearly slamming into the window.

Thump.

She landed squarely in a pair of strong arms.

Logan’s grip tightened around her waist, pulling her firmly onto his lap.

His hands were warm, steady, sending a wave of heat across her skin.

Selina’s breath caught. Her heart fluttered. "I..."

"I won’t," Logan said calmly, voice low and certain.

"Huh?" she blinked. "Won’t what?"

"I won’t help her. Mrs. Reid can rest easy."

Selina immediately realized—he was answering her earlier question.

She was still sitting in Logan’s lap, their bodies close. His voice carried just enough warmth to brush teasingly against her ear, sending a tingle down her spine.
