"Well, well, Miss Clark is awake."
Selina struggled to lift her eyes.
The head bodyguard gave a sinister chuckle. "Miss Angelica said you need to be taught a lesson. No hard feelings."
"Since Miss Clark broke Miss Angelica’s hand, the old man says it’s only fair you experience what that feels like." He glanced behind him. "Do it."
Angelica’s broken hand... what did that have to do with her?!
Just as the bodyguard stepped forward, his phone rang. He stepped outside to answer, and his expression immediately changed. "Understood."
When he returned, the grin was gone. He looked at Selina coldly.
"Miss Angelica’s condition has worsened. Miss Clark, I’m afraid breaking your hands isn’t enough anymore. My apologies."
He turned to his men. "You all listen up. Before Miss Clark dies, make sure she experiences our ’VIP treatment.’ We can’t let Miss Angelica down."
Selina saw them bring in a knife and a bottle of pills—her stomach dropped. A terrible feeling washed over her.
"You shouldn’t have messed with Miss Angelica. She’s the Morris heiress, Logan’s supposed savior, and the old man’s chosen granddaughter-in-law. That kind of status? You were doomed the moment you got in her way."
The bodyguard sighed. "Or... you could beg me to kill you quickly. At least you’d be spared the pain."
Selina sneered. "Keep dreaming."
His face darkened. Smack! A harsh slap struck her cheek.
"Won’t drink the toast, huh? Fine. Slice her tendons."
Selina’s head jerked sideways, and she coughed up blood.
The blade pressed against her wrist—agony exploded through her arm. Her whole body shook, blood splattered across the floor, and everything went dark before her eyes.
Her hands dropped limp. She couldn’t fight back anymore. One of the guards grabbed her jaw and forced the pills down her throat.
"Miss Clark, I’ll go fetch a couple of guys to ’entertain’ you. Don’t worry, your death will be slow and ugly. Dying on top of a man—this is the ending Miss Angelica prepared just for you. Satisfied?"
A flood of hatred surged inside Selina.
She couldn’t afford to provoke them any further. She had to conserve her strength and find a way out.
"Oh, almost forgot," the bodyguard said suddenly. "Miss Angelica wanted me to tell you something."
"She said she went to the eastern outskirts of City H four years ago to hunt you down. She never saved anyone."
"So think hard before you die, Miss Clark—who really saved Logan?"
Selina’s head snapped up.
...
Angelica was resting at the Reid estate when she got the update from the bodyguard. Her face lit up with joy.
"Selina’s dead?!"
"Yes, Miss Angelica. Don’t worry. She’s hanging on by a thread—no one can save her now. That drug’s already in her system. Unless she’s a descendant of the Ghost Doctor, she’s dead for sure."
Angelica was so thrilled she forgot all about her pain. She was practically hysterical with excitement.
"Dead! She’s finally dead! Hahaha! Selina’s gone—finally gone!"
This was perfect. She hadn’t been able to kill Selina all these years, and now—just like that—Selina was gone. Who could threaten her now? Joe and Logan would never learn the truth. It was perfect...
Angelica’s eyes narrowed with a gleam. "Spread the news that Selina’s dead. But make sure it doesn’t trace back to me."
Logan locked down every place Selina could have possibly gone and finally found a surveillance feed.
—Angelica, after meeting Selina, deliberately had her bodyguard break her own hand.
Then Joe showed up, and the car drove toward the Reid estate.
So... Selina was most likely at the Reid estate—or at the very least, someone there knew where she was.
Just then, Jack rushed over.
"Sir, we’ve discovered something—Old Master’s elite security team is missing. And also... also..."
Jack swallowed hard, clearly hesitant to speak. But finally, he gritted his teeth and forced it out: "They say Madam... Madam is dead..."
The air turned deathly still.
