Married at First Sight [On-Going]
Chapter 4578
Amia was stunned speechless.
Was she hearing this correctly?
Her boss—Vice President Romina Lafond—was seriously going to set up blind dates for Mr. River York of Yantail?
And this, right after that gossip article had made waves about the two of them possibly being secretly married?
To outsiders, it might seem suspicious. But Amia knew the truth.
Her sister and Romina had been close friends for over a decade. She knew Romina’s private life inside and out.
Romina had never been married—secretly or otherwise. She didn’t even have a boyfriend.
As for River, he’d only been in Eaglioncile for less than six years. The boy in the photo looked six or seven. There was no way that child belonged to Romina and River.
When that kid was born, the two hadn’t even met.
“You’re surprised, right?” Romina said with a bitter laugh, reading Amia’s expression.
Honestly, she was still surprised by the situation.
“Long story short,” Romina continued, “I did something that embarrassed River—and it hurt his reputation. He told me it would make it harder for him to get married. So now, as compensation, I’m helping him find someone.
I figured if I arrange enough blind dates, he might eventually meet someone he likes. Then this will all be over, and he won’t keep holding it over my head.”
Amia finally understood. That explained everything.
Romina added, “You know the company well. Tell me which employees have shown interest in River and might be open to a blind date. I’ll meet with them first and ask how they feel about it. If they’re willing, I’ll schedule them in.”
“If someone actually hits it off with Mr. York,” Amia said instinctively, “then we should have them resign. We can’t have them stay at Lafond—it’d be a liability.”
“Don’t take it the wrong way,” she added quickly. “But if I know someone’s attracted to River, I’ll keep an eye on them. I don’t want anyone stealing confidential information to win his favor.”
Romina chuckled. “Don’t worry, I’m cautious too.
Fortunately, none of them have gone completely head-over-heels. At least, not yet.”
Amia scoffed. “That’s only because they know how hard River is to impress.
Plenty of powerful women have tried to win him over—female CEOs, influencers, you name it. And he never gave any of them the time of day.
He’s so used to being surrounded by beautiful women that he’s become immune. It’d take someone truly extraordinary to get through to him.
These girls know that. They won’t risk their careers for a fantasy.
But with you arranging these blind dates, it’s basically like telling them to start preparing their resignation letters.”
Romina sighed. “I’m just setting them up on blind dates with River. That’s all. Whether or not they work out, I’m not firing anyone unless they actually do something that harms the company.
Of course, we’ll exclude senior and core management—we’ve invested too much in them to risk losing them over a man.
Just look into the regular staff who’ve had minor contact with him. They don’t have access to sensitive information, so the risk is low.
But yeah… if they do end up with River, their chances of promotion here will be slim. They’ll probably stay right where they are.”
