Chapter 66
reston’s eyes lingered on Georgia with a strange, almost obsessive intensity, caught in the tide of his own memories. Every glance pulled him deeper, an invisible tether tightening around his chest. He found himself powerless to resist her presence, even as confusion gnawed at his mind.
What the hell is happening to me? he wondered, silently querying the wolf that shared his mind.
Luca’s voice echoed firmly, insistent and uncompromising. She is our mate. The word reverberated between them like a drumbeat. We are werewolves–our strength, our safety, our peace come from being bonded to our mates. That connection is everything. Without it, we are lost.
Preston remained mute, his mind a storm of conflicting thoughts. He said nothing
Luca’s tone shifted, edged with frustration. You should mark her already. It’s maddening to have our mate close yet unclaimed. You delay, and it breeds chaos in your soul.
Preston’s voice was heavy with denial. “I’ve already rejected her.”
But Luca’s response was sharp, full of reproach. She never rejected you. Until that happens, your rejection is meaningless.
Before Preston could summon words to ask about Georgia’s wolf, an abrupt intrusion shattered the moment: a mental call from the pack. Without hesitation, he accepted.
Lorenzo’s voice resonated directly in his thoughts. “Alpha Preston, what are your orders regarding this woman, Laura?”
Preston’s tone hardened, cold as steel. “Get rid of her. I don’t want to see that woman again.”
Georgia’s accusation echoed in his mind–he was indeed a cruel werewolf. Bloodshed was second nature to him. As an Alpha, mercy was often a luxury he couldn’t afford.

*Alpha Preston? Anything else?” Lorenzo queried, a flicker of surprise in his tone.
Preston’s gaze fell upon the fragile form of Georgia, quietly sleeping in the bed. He hesitated for a moment, then ordered, *Lock her up. Do not kill or torture her.”
A stunned silence followed before Lorenzo responded briskly. “Yes, Alpha Preston.” He ended the call.
Lorenzo glanced down at Laura, who cowered nearby, trembling, clinging desperately to his trouser leg. “Why am I being locked up? Didn’t Georgia come to Mr. Hill on my behalf? Shouldn’t I be free by now?” Her voice was laced with desperation
and defiance.
Lorenzo’s expression hardened into one of contempt. In his eyes, she was nothing but ignorant and foolish.
If Georgia hadn’t intervened for you, he thought bitterly, you’d be suffering far worse than a simple lockup.
Georgia really plead for me? Tell mel” Laura’s face twisted in bitter resentment. “I knew she didn’t. That bitch!”
“Shut up!” Lorenzo barked, shaking her off. His eyes blazed with disgust. “Why would Miss Cooper plead for you? She nearly died because of you. You owe her more respect than that.”
Lorenzo sneered, unconvinced. “If you’re so capable, rely on yourself. Stop dragging down others, especially someone like Georgia. Otherwise, you’ll only deepen the contempt people hold for you.”
A sharp crack filled the air. Laura clutched her face, screaming as Lorenzo’s hand struck her.
of you, and I’ll scar your face permanently.”
No, she thought fiercely. I can’t let him ruin my face. I have to wait for Dominic. Dominic will come. Dominic likes me.
Georgia remained unconscious in the hospital until the late afternoon. Exhaustion weighed heavily on her, or perhaps this fever was more relentless than the last. When she finally stirred, grogginess clouded her mind, and she struggled to make sense of her unfamiliar surroundings.
