Chapter 56
Get 5:
reston stood rigid before the sofa, his mind tangled in thoughts about Georgia. Then, faint footsteps whispered behind him. As a werewolf, his senses–sharp and unerring–immediately confirmed her presence.
He turned sharply. Seeing Georgia approach with hesitant steps stirred a fresh surge of fury inside him.
His wolf incessantly reminded him that she was their mate. Yet Preston loathed admitting it. The meek, submissive woman before him–so broken and fragile–felt like an impostor in that role.
Still, he could neither deny nor ignore her standing there, quietly unsettling his mood as always.
“Stop right there. Where do you think you’re going?” Preston demanded.
“I’m going to work, Mr. Hill,” Georgia answered with calm resolve. Her voice bore respect, but Preston sensed the stubborn
steel beneath.
“To work? In your state? You nearly died just now. Do you even realize that?” he snapped, anger flaring again.
‘You care about nothing but money,‘ he thought bitterly. “You almost died, and yet all you think about is making more Imoney. Does anything mean more to you? Is Mason just second fiddle?‘
The thought inflamed his temper further.
“If there’s nothing else, Mr. Hill, I’m leaving for work now,” Georgia insisted, her shoulders hunched as if she was born
crooked.
Her weary posture ignited a complex mix of anger and a brief, suppressed sadness within Preston. But he chose to ignore
that flicker of tenderness.
“Fine then,” he said coldly. “I’m lucky to have such a diligent employee. Since you love your job so much, why not make a
million dollars this month?”
-Georgia’s knees wobbled. She turned to face the man on the sofa, disbelief cracking her voice. “Mr. Hill, are you seriously
asking me to transfer a million dollars into that bank account in a single month?”
Preston didn’t respond with words, only a mocking wave of his hand. “Go back to work. You’re good at it, so I know you can do it.”
His words came with a twisted encouragement: “You got this. I believe in you.”
His brutal sarcasm drained the color from Georgia’s face. Her lips trembled, eyes wide, and she stared at him like he was
her entire world.
Slowly, she parted her lips, but no sound came out. No plea, no begging.
“I see, Mr. Hill.” With that, she turned away and stepped into the elevator.
As the doors slid shut, Preston’s lips curled into a merciless smile. He thought, Georgia used to beg me for mercy. Now? She won’t even bother. Everything changed the moment she met Mason.
Through the mental bond with Lorenzo, Preston issued a command. “Find out everything on Mason Wilder, the Alpha of the Sapphire Tide Pack.”
“Send it to Charlotte. Have her give it to Georgia, Preston ordered. Just as he moved to end the call, he added, “And don’t tell Georgia it’s from me.”
