Chapter 49
Titus gestured toward the massive transparent container that had just been wheeled in. “Miss Savio, have you ever watched a diving performance before? That’s what you’ll be doing tonight. Please step inside.”
Without delay, the workers who had carried in the container hurried to the bathroom. They attached a nylon pipe to the faucet and began filling the chamber with water. The liquid splashed against the clear walls, rising inch by inch under the dim lights.
Laura’s skin turned ashen.
“I’ll die in there,” she whispered, her voice trembling as she shook her head violently.
“We’re not here to watch you die.” Titus replied, his tone dripping with deceptive kindness. “It takes a person about four to six minutes to drown. We’ll pull you out after three.”
“Then why are you paying two hundred thousand dollars?” she asked shakily, her mind reeling even as greed warred, with terror in her chest.
“Accidents happen, Miss Savio,” Titus said softly, spreading his hands in mock helplessness. “Of course, we’d hate to see that. But sometimes… there’s nothing anyone can do.”
His meaning carved a blade of cold dread straight into her chest. Her breathing turned shallow as her pulse thundered against her ribs,
What do I do?
Vetro Club had abandoned her completely. Regret gnawed at her insides. She should have listened to Charlotte’s warnings about the club’s darkness. Now, it was far too late for regret to save her.
Desperation sparked a frantic thought.
She lifted her gaze to Titus, inhaled shakily, a Chapter Unlocked. Enjoy Reading! someone who would be much better for this performance. She’d do anything for money.”
“Oh?” Titus smiled, intrigued. “And who might that be?”
He narrowed his eyes, studying Laura’s pale, trembling face. So this is the ‘special woman‘ Dominic promised? Titus thought. She looked innocent enough, but he’d met many women like her young, cunning, and willing to barter others for their own survival.
He decided not to make things difficult for her–at least, not yet.
“Her name is Georgia. She works in PR here. She’s obsessed with money, Mr. Talon. Anything you ask her to do, she’ll do it for the right price.”
Titus’s interest sharpened. “Why do you say she loves money so much?”
Laura launched into a breathless explanation. “Georgia and I are roommates. She’s desperate for cash. She’ll do anything- literally anything. Once, she lay on her stomach like a dog and wagged her tall just to pick up money from the floor. Everyone in Vetro Club knows about it. A drowning performance is nothing to her. She’s done far more humiliating things. ”
Titus’s lips curled with amusement. “Really? Now that sounds entertaining. Beto, fetch her here.”
Relief flooded Laura so swiftly her knees nearly buckled. For a fleeting moment, guilt flickered in her chest. Is this going too far? But she quickly rationalized it away.
They said they’d pull her out after three minutes anyway. I’m not really harming her. She should be grateful I’m giving her chance to make money
