Evening descended over Gabbs as work drew to a close, and a fine drizzle began to fall. Georgia moved slowly through the rain, her pace deliberate, cautious.

She reached the convenience store near the Vetro Club.

“Miss, that’ll be six dollars and forty cents,” the clerk said, nodding toward the umbrella Georgia had placed on the counter.

Her eyes flicked to the umbrella–it was the cheapest model the store offered. She opened her purse and checked her meager funds. She could afford it, but hesitation flickered across her face.

“Thanks, but the rain’s light. I don’t think I need this.”

Exiting the store, she wrapped her coat tighter around her slender frame and kept her head down, pressing forward.

The drizzle wasn’t heavy, but the sting in her side flared with every drop falling onto the wound at her waist.

By the time she reached the dormitory, the rain had thickened, soaking her thoroughly.

She staggered, drenched, to the dorm’s door.

Her key slid into the lock, but the door remained stubbornly shut.

Frozen for a moment, she stared at the closed barrier, forcing a weak smile.

Despite the rift between them, she and Laura still shared this dorm. Though the atmosphere was strained–silent hostility simmering between them–none of the two had moved out.

Maybe Charlotte forgot to swap their rooms, or management deemed their conflict too petty to intervene.

But ever since that day, Laura’s attitude toward Georgia had shifted sharply.

No matter how openly disdainful Laura was, she’d never locked Georgia out before.

“Laura, open the door!” Georgia called out desperately.

Her voice faltered midway, swallowed by silence. She slowly lowered her head, biting back the frustration. Laura had clearly decided not to let her in.

Shouting was pointless; Laura wasn’t asleep.

Leaning against the door, Georgia glanced upward toward the ceiling and whispered, “I have nowhere else to go.”

If only she still possessed her wolf–the freedom to shift and vanish into the forest.

Now, she was more vulnerable than any human.

Sliding down, she sat on the cold ground, wrapping herself tighter in her sodden clothes. The chill seeped deep into her

bones.

That night, she fell asleep propped against the door, the cold pressing in as endless nightmares tormented her.

She found herself perched at the edge of a cliff, plummeting into an abyss she could not escape.

Startled awake, Georgia realized she hadn’t fallen–but the door behind her was suddenly swung open from the inside.

“What are you doing? Why sleep by the door when you have a bed?” Laura’s voice was sharp, yet tinged with an unfamiliar

softness.

Since their last incident, Laura had done her best to ignore Georgia’s presence, wearing a mask of icy detachment.

Yet now, she was offering wordsawkward, tentative.

“Locked? Maybe I accidentally locked it when I shut the door,” Laura replied, her tone casual but dismissive.

“Why are you staring at me like that? I didn’t mean to lock you out. Why didn’t you knock or call? What’s the use of having a mouth if you don’t use it?
