Hiding His Alpha Twins novel Chapter 34

Catarina’s POV

"Is everything ok?" I looked at Alex worriedly as Nadia and Nathan continued to play happily, making sandcastles and shrieking with laughter as they did so.

Alex ended his call and glanced over at me with a small sigh.

"There has been some development with Tara’s progress," he said.

"She awake, isn't she?" I growler, getting up from the deck chair and scrambling my stuff together. Alex touched my shoulder and urged me to listen to him. All I could think about was returning home and having it out with her. Although the holiday was lovely, I could not fully enjoy it knowing that she was back in my life, and she held the answers to questions that I needed answers to.

I sighed and reluctantly sat back down, giving Alex my full attention. He explained that Tara had awakened from her coma, but her memory loss was extensive. She had no recollection of recent events, including the accident that had put her in the hospital. My heart sank as I realised that the conversations and confrontations, I had longed to have with her may never happen.

Alex continued; his voice filled with concern. He had spoken with Tara's doctors, who had advised caution when exposing her to any potentially distressing information. They believed that it was best for her recovery to take things slow and allow her memories to return on their own gradually.

As much as I wanted to confront Tara and demand answers, I knew Alex was right. Pushing her too soon could do more harm than good. Besides, there was no guarantee that her memories would ever return fully.

Reluctantly, I nodded at Alex, acknowledging his wisdom. "You're right," I admitted, resignation washing over me. "I guess I'll just have to be patient and hope for the best."

He smiled at me, understanding and sympathetic. "It's not going to be easy," he said softly, reaching out to hold my hand. "But we'll get through this together, Catarina. And maybe, just maybe, Tara will remember something."

I took a deep breath, trying to find peace amidst the swirling thoughts and emotions. I knew I had to put my desire for answers on hold.

As I watched Nadia and Nathan playing in the sand, their laughter filling the air, I found solace in the simple joy of the present moment.

"I just want to go home," I said.

An hour later and we were all packed and ready to leave our holiday home.

"You know, he is not a threat anymore," Alex said and went back to packing the car up with our belongings.

"What makes you so sure?" I queried, but he pretended not to hear me, and I left it because the twins were within earshot, and I did not want them to hear anything that might upset them.

The journey home felt long and uncomfortable for me. Why could Lochlan and Tara not stay in the past, where they belonged? Why did it feel like Alex was hiding something from me? Why did Tara turn up at the kingdom, pregnant and then collapse?

I dreaded having to face her again after all these years. I planned to keep quiet about Nadia and Nathan. As I looked back at them, I saw that they were asleep. It was an excellent opportunity to talk to Alex about my thoughts.

"Alex. I need to ask you something. What happened to Lochlan?" I looked across at him and noticed how he gripped the steering wheel when I asked such a question.

"Cat, come back and talk to me," he called after me, but I ignored him, making my way to the hospital side of the castle.

As I stormed into the castle, my mind was filled with a mix of determination, anger, and fear. I knew that confronting Tara would not be easy, especially considering her memory loss and fragile state. But I couldn't shake the feeling that I needed to talk to her, to finally uncover the truth about Lochlan and the events that had led to his disappearance.

Mindy followed closely behind me, holding onto Nadia and Nathan's hands tightly. I could sense her concern and hesitation, but I knew that protecting the twins was my top priority. They were innocent bystanders in all of this, and I didn't want them caught in the middle of any potential conflicts.

"Take them to their bedroom and do not allow anyone to access them." I told her.

"Of course, madam. Is everything ok?" she asked.

"Everything is fine."

Looking down at my twins my heart melted at their wide eyes.

"It’s ok, my cherubs. Mummy will be with you soon. I just must visit an old friend."

"Ok mummy." they said in unison and off they went with Mindy.
