The kidnappers of the young demons in the minivan were three recently arrived demons from outside the city.
According to the rules of the Demon Control Agency, any demon entering an urban area had to register and undergo basic modern education.
Of course, there were exceptions like Rhodes, who'd managed to integrate into human society through their efforts. The Demon Control Agency rarely enforced strict oversight for these cases.
The three demons claimed they'd just come from the mountains. Following proper procedures, they enrolled at Zaprath School for a basic orientation program.
Unlike other demons here to learn, they were here for the demons in the school.
Just like there were kind and evil ghosts, the same applied to demons. Evil demons gained supernatural strength by devouring the souls of other demons.
At first, they'd just targeted demons in the same full demon class. Newly emerged demons from the mountains had no connections, so the Demon Control Agency wouldn't notice immediately if one or two went missing.
But young demons were different. Every young demon admitted into Zaprath was a treasured child of their respective demon clans, and if even one went missing, their entire clan would hunt down whoever took them.
Despite their vulnerability compared to adult demons, the three demons dared not target the young demons at first.
But when the young demons walked straight to them, not kidnapping them would feel like a waste. The abduction had gone as smoothly as they'd expected.
Looking at the young demons bound in demon sacks and trembling in fear, the leading evil demon couldn't help cackling.
Just as the smile stretched across his lips, a voice from the side interrupted them. "Boss, I think someone has caught up!"
The leader's expression darkened. So soon?
They'd come up with a way to break the side gate's lock without triggering the school's barrier. Both classes in the west wing had lectures today, and no one should've been paying attention to the metal gate. How had someone already caught up?
Shannon cursed internally. If this had been a normal demon or ghost, that attack would have severed their hand entirely.
Even so, the leader's claw was partially severed. The searing pain forced him to howl in agony as his face twisted in rage. "You're not a demon youngling! You're a human mystic master!"
How dared a mere human interfere in their affairs! She had to die!
Fury-fueled, the leader burst out of the van's roof and lunged straight at Shannon.
But just as he threw himself out, two other demons burst out from inside the van. One had a demon youngling under each arm. The moment he hit the ground, he dashed off at full speed and headed toward a specific location.
The other carried two young demons as well. Ignoring Shannon and the leader's fight, he spread his wings and soared into the air with a single flap.
