The man barely had time to react to Shannon's sudden appearance before the supernatural lightning struck him directly. His screams were swallowed by the blinding flashes of lightning.
At the same time, the unbreakable black threads disintegrated bit by bit and turned into charred ash as the man's body was reduced to a scorched husk.
Shannon looked away only after she was sure he was no longer a threat. She turned to Benjamin and asked, "Are you okay?"
Seeing her instinctively grab his hand, Benjamin simply reassured her, "Don't worry. I'll be fine."
Shannon secretly sighed in relief. If not for Benjamin's cooperation, dealing with this man alone would've taken much more effort.
"Let's head to the basement and find Hector."
Though she said so, they first checked on Skylar and Leah.
As the black threads controlling both Leah and Skylar dissolved away, they were instantly released from both physical and mental restraint.
Though neither knew exactly what technique Shannon had used to teleport earlier, it was clear she'd successfully dealt with their enemy.
With the man dead, the black smoke in the villa gradually dissipated and no longer hindered their movements.
Shannon and Benjamin descended the stairs to lift the bindings on Skylar and Leah. Then, they headed to the basement together.
The Jensen residence had two basements; one in the east wing and one in the west wing. Hector and the others were in the basement of the east wing.
Back when they'd dealt with Cecily and the system, Skylar and Mike had set up an array here to deceive the system's detection.
Later, Shannon modified the original array and transformed it into a barrier array. Deploying a formation that covered the entire villa would've been too resource-intensive, but keeping it contained to a single basement was much easier.
When they reached the basement, they found the door tightly shut. A small red command flag stood outside the door despite having no visible support.
Shannon finally let out a breath of relief.
Though the door was open, the barrier prevented them from entering. The command flag was inherited among the Rutherfords, and trying to dispel it from the outside would be extremely difficult. The best way was to have someone in the barrier remove the flag themselves.
Shannon explained her plan to Hector. "Skylar taught you the spell. If you remove the flag, the barrier will open." She wanted to bring Sylvia out first.
But Hector remained still. The usual warmth in his smile was replaced by a rare icy calm. "Shannon, can you prove that you haven't been controlled?"
He was certainly aware that Leah and Skylar had been controlled earlier. Though he trusted Shannon's abilities, he had to ensure the safety of those in the barrier as one of the last few conscious members of the Jensen family.
No matter how normal they seemed, what if the black threads could now remain hidden?
Shannon agreed his request made sense.
