Leah turned to Shannon and screamed, "Shannon, just kill me already!"
"Shut up!"
Shannon instinctively snapped and gritted her teeth as she tried to pin Leah in place with a binding talisman. But once the talisman came in contact with the black smoke surrounding her, it melted away like ink dissolving in water.
Her gaze darkened. A black smoke capable of dissolving talismans was similar to the one Nash had used. The system had absorbed similar black smoke!
As realization struck her, she quickly switched talismans and pulled out another she'd developed through her research on the system's abilities against the black smoke.
At the same time, Skylar attacked again and sent a fire talisman streaking straight toward her.
With both of them attacking her at once, Shannon had no time to counter. She could only dodge frantically and barely avoided the onslaught.
Behind her, Benjamin had disappeared at some point.
Upstairs, the man lurking in the shadows focused entirely on controlling his "puppets" to fight Shannon. He was so intent on his manipulation that he failed to notice Benjamin's disappearance.
By the time he realized it, Benjamin had appeared behind him without a sound.
The man turned around, and his face stiffened in shock once he saw Benjamin. "You… Why…"
Why was Benjamin standing in the middle of the black smoke completely unharmed?
But there was no time for questions. The man instantly unleashed a web of black threads toward Benjamin.
Dense threads shot out from the center of his chest and aimed straight at Benjamin, who watched coldly and unmoving.
As soon as the black threads neared him, they began to disintegrate as if an invisible force was purging them. They could barely touch him before being purified by the golden light surrounding his body.
The man's expression shifted dramatically. He looked at Benjamin as though he were some kind of monster. "W-What are you? Why don't my puppet threads work on you?"
His threads were crafted from the bones of a spider demon and fused with black smoke. Even demons had no resistance against them.
"Heaven's thunder roars, earth's thunder groans, six heavens above, six hells below, I wield the decree, to sever the thunder's might…"
Hearing her chant the spell, Skylar's expression showed not the slightest panic. Instead, he slowly closed his eyes, and his face filled with grim acceptance of his inevitable death.
He'd rather die than continue hurting his allies while being controlled.
Shannon caught sight of his resignation and rolled her eyes at him. Then in the next instant, her body disappeared.
Guided by the unique pull of the red mark, she was instantly drawn to Benjamin's location.
She'd been ready for this moment. As soon as she reappeared, she didn't bother glancing at the black smoke-shrouded man.
Her voice was cold as she uttered the final command. "Boom, with power and light!"
Brilliant purple supernatural lightning erupted from all directions and crashed straight down onto the man's head.
