Shannon's declaration stunned Blossom and Poisy.
Before they could fully process her words and react, she stepped forward and placed a hand on the serpent's egg in Blossom's arms.
The struggling Poisy immediately ceased all movement in curiosity.
She was boiling with fury and distrust, and part of her suspected Shannon might just be lying and stalling for time. But the mere possibility that her child might still be alive led her to cling to a shred of hope.
It was perhaps to say that she desperately wanted her child to be alive rather than that she trusted Shannon.
Both Poisy and Blossom held their breath as Shannon concentrated with her palm pressed firmly against the smooth cool surface of the egg. Through careful sensing, she detected a faint nearly imperceptible trace of soul remnant in the egg.
This would mean that the fetus soul had yet to dissipate.
It was so weak and fragile like a wisp of smoke that might vanish with just the slightest touch. It was only a matter of time before it completely dissipated.
Shannon's mind racked for a solution to stabilize the soul remnant and gather the fetus soul.
She could try if it were an ordinary soul remnant, but this belonged to the fetus soul of a demon. Shannon wasn't sure if ordinary soul repair techniques would suffice.
As she contemplated, the Bentrix Stone on her chest emitted a gentle warmth. The warmth seeped into her body and flowed until it eventually reached her palm.
Her palm tingled tightly. Following her instinct, Shannon guided the warmth and channeled it into the egg through her spiritual energy.
With a soft swoosh, the faint wisp of soul remnant pulsed ever so slightly with a noticeable trace of energy.
Though it was weak, Poisy instantly sensed it. Her vertical pupils trembled and shifted into rounded almost humanlike shapes. She stared almost pleadingly at Shannon.
Their suspicious gazes turned to Layne. The fact that he'd brought all the snakes here would mean he'd offended some powerful supernatural being.
Cowering behind the firefighters, Layne barked orders and urged, "My wife and son are still in there! Get rid of these snakes and rescue them now!"
Though the path Shannon had cleared with her fire talisman remained open, Layne refused to risk walking through it after seeing the snakes lining the sides. All he could do was wait for help from the firefighters.
He'd seen the venomous species lurking among the swarms. One bite could mean death before reaching the hospital, and he dared not put his life at stake.
Reluctant to act recklessly, the firefighters began preparing protective gear.
But Layne impatiently grabbed one of them and berated, "How long are you going to take to get ready? Just go in with the flamethrowers already!
"I pay taxes every year, and now you're standing here wasting time when I need you the most! Do you want me to file a complaint!"
