Owen approached with a mischievous grin, addressing Rose playfully. “Miss Rose, you’ve got to be kidding me. You’re gorgeous, brilliant, and a talented doctor, yet you wasted your time on this–a man who has no morals. Aren’t there enough men in the world? Even if you randomly picked one, he’d still be miles better than him.”
Owen couldn’t help but wonder how someone as exceptional as Houston, always surrounded by high–society women and heiresses, ended up marrying someone with unresolved feelings for another man
Ethan, angered by Owen’s remarks, retorted, “And who are you supposed to be? Don’t you have work to do on a weekday? Or are you just another unemployed busybody?”
Owen burst out laughing. “Now I understand why you lost, Rose. It’s not because you lacked anything, but because this man’s taste is beyond terrible. Flashing his branded badge, he added with a smirk, “Owen–actor, singer, and writer.”
Ethan. realizing his mistake, looked visibly uncomfortable.
Rose observed Owen closely. His last name matched Houston’s, so they were likely related.
As the thought sa
in, Owen’s boldness became increasingly appealing to her.
Aaron and Grace, realizing the situation was turning against them, tried to redirect the conversation. Aaron spoke cautiously. Rose, the situation with Vivian, Ethan, and you is a private matter between our families. There’s no need to escalate this publicly. Let’s leave it at that for now.
Owen cut him off sharply. “Of course, the guilty party doesn’t want to escalate things. After all, your daughter stole her best friend’s fiance. If this got out, it would be a huge embarrassment. And as a deputy director of cardiology, you’d probably face harsh criticism too.
Aaron was stunned into silence, his attempts at deflecting completely shut down
Grace, seeing Aaron’s failure, tried another approach. She spoke to Rose with a tone of forced concern. “Rose, your mom’s condition will likely require Aaron’s help in the future. You’re a smart girl–turning this into a feud won’t do her any good.”
threatening Owen, shocked by their manipulation, casually placed his hand on Rose’s shoulder and said sharply. “Are you Rose? The wife of a deputy director of cardiology making such ridiculous claims? Rose doesn’t need your so–called help. Houston has already arranged for the best cardiologist in the world to treat Madam Linda. You’re irrelevant now.”
Grace’s face flushed bright red, her embarrassment palpable.
Rose couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “Owen, is that true?”
No one present believed Owen had arranged for a doctor. To them, he seemed like someone who simply acted impulsively in
the hear of the moment.
But to their surprise, Owen snapped his fingers, and his manager appeared, leading Jason’s renowned medical team into the
Aaron, recognizing the world–class cardiologist, was left utterly stunned.
“Dr. Jason, please take excellent care of Madam Linda, Owen said cheerfully.
Jason, with a touch of humor, replied, “I will. If anything goes wrong, Houston would probably kill me.”
Owen laughed. “So even you’re afraid of that tyrant, Houston?”
Rose quickly explained landa’s condition to Jason, who nodded and led his team inside.
Meanwhile, Ethan and the Brown family stood outside, embarrassed and utterly confused.
Their thoughts raced. Why would Ouen go to such lengths for Rase!
“How does Rose even know someone
