From Rougue To Luna novel Chapter 69

I ignored the ache in my neck and leaned my head closer to her, taking her hand in mine as it held my face. "I'm ok. Are you all right?" I asked, trying to hide the shake in my voice.

She beamed over to Ivy and then looked back at me, blinking her large blue eyes over at me. "Yes. Miss Ivy has been so much fun. She taught me how to play the shadow game. Want to see?"

I glanced at Ivy as she chuckled and gave Huntleigh a small nod. She squealed in delight and jumped carefully off of the bed, bouncing over to the lamp on the bedside table. "See. Look! It's a wolf!" Her little hands melded together in the light, casting a shadow of a large wolf head against the wall. She pulled it back, and widened her bottom fingers before tilting her head back and letting out a tiny yelping howl. "Isn't that cool mommy? Will you do it with me?"

I opened my mouth to try, but noticed instantly that my throat tightened. Ivy walked over to stand at my bedside, looking down at Huntleigh with a smile. "Mommy can play later ok? Why don't we let her rest right now?"

Huntleigh nodded and smiled over to me, walking to stand beside my bed as she leaned forward and kissed my cheek. "Get better soon mommy." She whispered before bouncing over to Ivy and letting her lead by the hand out of the room.

"Once the door was shut, I shifted my attention back to a looming Alpha still standing in the corner. He made my room seem smaller in his stance as he leaned his shoulder against the wall, staring a hole down into the floor.

"Come here Rhett." I pushed through the link, pulling his mind back to me and out of whatever thoughts were wreaking havoc on his mind.

His eyes refocused and snapped over to me, blinking before he slowly pushed off of the wall and stepped over to the bedside. I reached up to take hold of his hand and tugged him down toward the bed, pulling him down to lay beside me. The tiny bed dipped and squeaked under both of our weight, but he gently placed me over so that there was enough room before pulling me slowly into his hold against his side. I lay my head down on his chest and breathed in his scent, letting it wash over me like a comforting blanket.

"I'm sorry." He finally said, his voice low and tight with emotion.

"But you're not!" He said, his voice raising slightly in anger as he pulled back to look at me. "Lili, he nearly killed you. If Dominic would let me, I'd tear Cage apart myself, piece by piece. After everything he's done to you, how can you be so calm?"

I felt hot tears begin to sting my eyes and I tried to blink them away as my heart fluttered in my chest. To see such a strong Alpha look so exhausted with worry over me filled me with an emotion I'd never really felt before. It warmed me to my very soul as he looked down at me, his eyes swirling with emotion and concern. I was his, and he was mine.

"I can be calm...because I know I have you with me. As long as I have you, everything's all right. And now I have Huntleigh, which I never even knew was possible before. You gave me that Rhett. You got her away from him and that's something I could have never done on my own. Not and give her the life she deserved. We'd have ended up just like my mom and I...but worse. We'd have lived on the run, always afraid he'd be coming to take us again. I can't thank you for what you've given me. I have no words for it." I said as the words tumbled out of my mouth, my throat tightening as tears began to drop down my cheeks.

"Lili, I'd do anything for you. Anything to make you safe. To make you happy. You mean more to me than anything else. If I hadn't gotten to you...I'd have killed him." He said, his jaw setting as his eyes bore into mine.
