As if hearing my thoughts about him, his voice suddenly popped into my head. I jumped, still surprised every time it happened. I'd never had any type of pack bond, and never felt anything like another person's voice present in my own mind.
"Lili, I need you at my office." He said.
"Coming." I replied shortly.
I slowly made my way down the hall to his office, stopping just in front of the door. I took a calming breath before knocking on the door.
"Come in." His muffled voice sounded from inside.
I opened the door and walked in, closing it before my eyes rose to see him standing, leaned against his desk. His eyes snapped up to look at me and swirled darker. His hands gripped tighter into the desk before he straightened, walking around the desk and stalking toward me. I took an instinctive step back and my hand flew up in front of my face.
"Don't come any closer." I said, my voice quieter than I'd intended.
He stopped, his hands clenching at his sides. He shook his head and scowled. "Why?" he growled.
"Because you can't keep doing this to me." I said, my words hitching in my throat.
"He has no right to touch you Lili."
"Why? Because you just want to keep me isolated even though you don't even want me? You may as well be just like him." I sneered.
His eyes widened and an expression of hurt crossed his face before he stepped closer. I stepped further back, my back pressing against the wall. "Lili, I never meant to..."
"Just save it. You've made your feelings perfectly clear. You don't want me, that's fine. But don't be upset that someone else does." I snapped. I glared up at him, trying to appear stronger than I felt even though every word was like a painful stab into my heart.
"Why do you want to know?" I asked. He shrugged and sighed loudly. "Rhett, what is it?"
He stiffened and trained his eyes forward on the map as a solid knock sounded on the door. "Thank you for your help. That is all Lili."
I scoffed and stared back at him. "Really? That's it. You're just done talking now?" I stepped closer but his hard eyes snapped up to mine.
"I said that is all." He said loudly, his voice booming with authority.
I huffed in response, waving my hands dismissively. "Alpha." I said with a sneer before turning and storming out of the room. I walked past a hesitant Asher in the doorway and stalked back to my room.
I slammed the door behind me and began pacing in front of my bed. There was definitely more than what he was telling me. Why would he be asking me about the cabin? What did he want with it? How did he even know to ask about it in the first place. Had his scouts followed Cage there? Why did they care? Why did he care? If he didn't want me, what did he care if Cage was hanging around our border for me to run. He knew I would. I always did.
