Fleeing the Nightmarish Father novel Chapter 69

VERONICA’S POV:-

“How do I look?” I asked Dariel, taking a spin in my pink dress at our six month anniversary.

He glanced at me and rose from his seat, stopping before me and grabbing the front of my dress with a glare, drying my throat in dread.

“How can you look at yourself in the mirror, hoping I would praise ‘you’?” He growled, closing the gap, scaring me.

“For how long are you going to punish me, Dariel? I will do whatever you want but don’t do this to me. Give me a chance.” I pleaded with him but I saw no place for me in his eyes.

“I tried to give us a chance but ripped it from us so don’t expect another from me.” He growled, pushing me away, shattering my heart, still hurting me for my one small mistake.

He was hurting me for my one mistake and he continued to do it until we got divorced.

He turned to leave but stopped and glanced heartlessly into my teary eyes, threatening me before leaving.

“And yes, you look horrible. That color is itching my eyes. Wear anything pink again and I will tear that dress myself.”

***

What a sight for sore eyes.

The heartless, arrogant, Dariel Cannedy, was smiling with his wife. Being with her as if his world was her, like, she was the core of emotions.

“Was it pink too, Dariel?”

“Exactly, Saafia! Matching with the necklace. I arranged it immaculately. But that didn’t come on time. It took me hours to find that dress. It ruined my whole arrangement.” He muttered.

“Aw, it’s alright. I don’t mind.”

“But, I do.”

They walked past me like I didn’t exist, talking with each other.

‘Why did those eyes never look at me in the same way?’ I thought, my jaw clenched, glaring at them with strange feelings. I hated seeing them together.

“What are you looking at, Love? What happened?” Jared came to me, grinning while offering me a drink.

“Hmm? Nothing. I.. had never seen him this happy. This is good with anyone. What does this woman ‘you’ left for ‘me’ have?” I muttered, finishing my drink in one go and turned away.

“What are you saying, Veronica? She is a kind one, maybe she melted his heart by her softness. Good for them, for all of us. Leave them, we can be together in peace.”

No doubt I was prettier than her, I was more charming than her but she got the attention and attraction. Even Jared yearned for her forgiveness.

“He even got her a rose pink necklace. Never give me one. Heck, I was not allowed to wear any shade of pink. Why is she allowed?” I argued, resenting the more they talked and smiled, it continued to pinch me while Jared was bewildered, having no idea what caused me to be furious.

“Come on, it’s just a necklace.”

“What does she have? Can you give me the same one?” I asked in a hissed.

“It.. looks really expensive, Darling. But, I will try.” He chuckled nervously, ruining my mood more.

I wonder why I left Dariel for him? So what if he kept me locked? I could get anything I pointed my finger at.

“Leave it. You cannot afford it.” I scoffed not before glancing at the center of the attention couple.

Everyone’s eyes were on them, they looked so radiant, so mesmerizing and here I was, stuck with this damn man.

I was so desperate to leave Dariel that I took any option available.

And it has begun to bother me now…

Frowning, I went closer to hear what they were talking about.

“Come on, Dariel. Show me.” Saafia whined, poking his shoulders continuously.

“It will arrive in a few days, woman, you can see it then.” He ignored her, drinking his drink calmly.

“Ah, I would adore all your choices. I will wear it on our anniversary.” She giggled, holding his arm, deepening my frown.

Why was he not pushing her away? He hated being touched in public, didn’t he?

“Or forget it just like you did now?” He smirked.

“Come on, I won’t forget our first one. Can’t guarantee the rest. I am bad with dates.” She pouted.

“Yeah, yeah.”

My chest clenched when instead of being furious, he smirked. I remembered all our dates but he never bothered her. Why didn't he scold her?

Narrowing my eyes, I forced a smile and went to them, “Congratulations on completing six months together.”

“Thank you.” She smiled, not leaving Dariel’s arm.

“You look delighted. I am surprised Dariel gave you something of the color he resented.” I spoke, looking at him but he ignored me.

He drank half of his drink and gave it to Saafia. She drank from where he did, widening his smirk and it pricked me.

Why the hell were they so romantic with each other?

I would have done them too if that was what he always wanted.

“Tsk and they call her kind and soft-hearted? She is clearly a manipulator.” I muttered, rolling my eyes off.

“What are you saying?” Jared came after they left.

“Nothing.”

“What happened, babe?”

“Don’t bother me.” Scoffing, I also went back furiously, hating to find those two together when she had nothing, not the prettiest too then why the heck he was head over heels for that woman?

‘Fake a few compliments, smiles and get his attention, huh? If that was needed to melt that stone I would have done it too.’ I thought angrily.

As time passed, my envy was growing, it was pissing me off to think about it. Why was he supporting her?

I obeyed him so quietly but I never got that position…

“What happened, Veronica? You look distressed for the past week.” Jared asked, getting ready for his work in the morning after making breakfast for me.

“Nothing.” I muttered.

“If there is anything, you can tell me.” He smiled, sitting beside me, taking my hands and was about to kiss them but I pulled them back.

“How was Saafia in your relationship?” I asked.

“I am sorry but I don’t feel comfortable talking about my ex to my wife. You are my future, not her.” He chuckled nervously.

“Hmph.” I scoffed and walked out of the room.

He didn’t think deeply about it and went to work.

After Jared left, I gathered my courage. If he wanted someone to act innocently, seductively and shit, then I would have him in my palm too. I could have done it flawlessly and ‘better’ than her.

I foolishly took the wrong step.

Pacing around the room, I grabbed my phone and called the person who could help me in this situation.

“Hello… Sam?”

Only to receive a dark chuckle from his side, snickering-

“I knew you would call me.”
