SAAFIA’S POV:-
When Dariel broke into a sob, it shattered my heart. With tears glistening in my eyes, I wrapped my hands around his to soothe him yet the sound of it agonized me.
“I don’t know what I should do anymore, Saafia. I feel so lost, I feel horrible,” He cried, looking up at me with his teary eyes.
Cupping his cheek, I wiped his tears that were breaking my heart. I couldn’t believe such reality was hidden from him.
How heartbroken he must be after knowing his father was killed…
“It’s alright, Dariel, give yourself some time.”
I wanted to comfort him by all means though I knew it won’t be enough, nothing could eradicate the scar emerging on his chest.
Pulling away a little, he clutched his chest to show his anguish as he told me about the regret he felt when he came to know.
“All this time, Mama was in pain but there was nothing I could do for her… He was torturing her, he killed my father, she knew but kept quiet for Helder…”
A stream of tears rolled down his cheek, clutching my hand with his other, breathless, agonized to fathom how it all happened.
But he couldn’t do anything to stop it.
“And he, he induced so much hatred in Helder, he is trying to make him cruel too. I don’t know what to do,” He whispered, overwhelmed with pain, the truth had ravaged him.
He found himself in a state of blur which was pricking him constantly, it was dripping to his core like a poison.
To realize that it was not greed but they had a reason to hurt them.
That his mother’s one mistake would drown them.
“Tell me, please,” He whimpered, forcing his cries to halt. I swallowed, not sure what to speak but murderers shouldn’t be forgiven.
“Some people need punishment. You can’t forgive everyone. Harry Cannedy should pay for his actions,” I whispered, wrapping my arms around his body so he could rest his head on my chest.
He held my waist and closed his eyes with sniff to suppress the tears rolling down painfully.
“Yeah, you are right. He is a murderer, he got my father killed, he should be punished for his actions.” He murmured, closing his eyes briefly to regain his composure but it was hard.
“Exactly,” I nodded in agreement.
“And Helder…?”
I pondered about it for about a minute while rubbing his back to comfort him. I knew our thinking was different but needed my opinion.
So I pulled away a little, cupping his cheek with my one hand and began to tell him vaguely.
“To be honest, Dariel, I… think Helder is being manipulated into doing all this. He is forcing him to be like this. I doubt he even know that Harry killed his brother too,”
We both knew I won’t hate on anybody, though I despise his Uncle but Helder, it was Tilda’s fault for neglecting him.
What did that child do to never get accepted by his mother?
“But there is nothing we could do about his hatred. He had been carrying this resentment for too long in his heart.” He sighs, taking a deep breath to place his uneven sensations at serene.
He placed his palm under mine which was on his cheek to immerse in my presence as I whispered tenderly.
“You were carrying that too, I ripped it out, didn’t I?”
“You did this. He has no Saafia with him to help him. He is incurable too,” He smirked faintly, emptily.
True, I was the one who brought a change in him, he became like this for me.
“Then let’s go back and talk to Jacey first,” I suggested, getting up to pour him a glass of water.
