Fleeing the Nightmarish Father novel Chapter 33

We were in a cafe, he was staring at me with confusion. I was nervous, not sure how to talk to him.

I was feeling slightly awkward, knowing if he came to know, it would be too hard for me to deal with yet I wanted to know.

Things he would probably never share with me.

“What? Are you here to tell me how he forcefully married you? Because I know ‘you’ won’t marry a man like him yourself.” He chuckled dryly.

“It doesn’t matter how we got married, Jared. What means to me is that he is my husband now.” I breathed out, fidgeting my fingers around my dress.

“Then what do you want? If he saw you with me, he would show you a nightmare. Be a good wife and go home. Don’t bring both of us useless troubles.” He scoffed, he knew what he could possibly do.

I heard tales of his coldness, his harsh demeanor from Jared. I never thought I would live with such an unbreakable stone.

“How was he with Veronica?” I came to the main topic.

“Are you asking me to tell you how my wife’s ex-husband treated her?” He arched an eyebrow with a snicker, not taking my words seriously.

But then, after what he did to Jared, he was unemployed, he was going through a crisis all because of him…

“Because her ex is my husband now.”

Sighing, he began to tell me nonchalantly.

“Then listen, Veronica was desperate for escape from a narcissist, toxic man who couldn’t trust her, was over possessive, taunts her, literally the worst partner.”

Forming my lips in a thin line, I was still. Blinking, I didn’t know what to respond to.

“I warned you already to stay away from him. He was not worth anything. He doesn’t have the heart to be a partner.” Jared continued to speak ill of him and I couldn’t argue as well.

It was not wrong either.

“But, why? Is it his money or his appearance? Which pride got him here?”

And my main concern what that- Why?

“It was not pride but the death of his mother. After she died, he changed completely.”

Of course he was too young when it happened and to survive in this world with no support, no one to be by his side…

He must be miserable to reach this point of coldness…

“How did they get married?”

“Contract marriage. For business. Veronica told me they were in the same college, he was fine there, a good man but years later when they got married, he had changed.”

What the- College? Wasn’t he a kid back then?

“But soon she only wanted to leave him. He restricted her life to the point she couldn’t breathe without his permission.”

“Wait, wait, wait. Mother’s death after college? But, didn’t his parents die when he was twelve?” I questioned, tilting my head in confusion.

“Only his Father died. His mother died a few years ago. I joined a year before she died. He was fine at first, kind, good but after she died, he became what he is.”

My lips quivered, narrowing my eyes in anguish. I shivered, averting my gaze, fearing to confront his wrath when he growled in my ears.

“Shut the hell up, Saafia. Don’t create a scene and come.”

“Boss-”

Jared narrowed his eyes in compassion. He realized he pushed me in fire by telling him that ‘I’ called him.

“I will deal with you later. First, you come.”

Hissing, he pointed his finger at Jared, shutting him instantly and dragged me with him. I convulsed out of dread, sparing a glance at him from time to time in horror.

The anticipation of what he would do. Is he going to abuse me? I gasped at my thoughts and at the same time, he stopped the car at the entrance.

“Listen-”

Before I could make him understand, he grabbed my arm in a painful grip and began to take me inside roughly. A tear rolled down my cheek, endeavoring to leave his hand.

“Leave me! I didn’t do anything!”

I raised my voice, making failed attempts to leave his harsh grip with tears glistening but he didn’t care and pushed me hard on the bed.

I opened my mouth but he pointed his finger furiously at me, yelling.

“I was right to not trust you!”
