1 immediately stood up, pulling her into my arms as fury surged from my chest.
“Ashley, are you insane?”
Ashley instantly put on a look of bewilderment: “I just touched her a little. How can she be so delicate?”
I looked down at Liz and indeed saw a red, swollen mark on her tender white arm.
I said coldly. “Apologize to Liz.”
Ashley put on an innocent expression, saying: “Oh my, children love to make a fuss. I was just trying to calm her down so she wouldn’t talk nonsense.”
Suddenly, steady footsteps sounded outside the door.
Then a low, authoritative male voice rang out:
“Liz? Why are you crying? What happened?”
Evan pushed the door open and entered, his posture upright, his black casual clothes making him look particularly sharp.
seeing the little girl trembling with tears in my arms, his brow immediately furrowed as he strode closer: “What’s wrong?”
I was about to speak when Ashley beat me to it.
‘Evan, is this your niece?”
Ashley’s face paled, as if suddenly realizing something, her tone becoming urgent: “I just came to greet Dr. Windsor, and then Liz suddenly started crying… Did Dr. Windsor accidentally hurt Liz?”
Me?”
laughed coldly and looked down at the little girl still sobbing in my arms.
Liz, tell your uncle what really happened.”
iz sniffled, her eyes red, gently raised her finger to point at Ashley, and said quietly: “It was… it was her… she pinched me… it hurt.”
Ashley’s expression changed dramatically. “You… what nonsense are you talking! How… how could I possibly pinch you? Evan, you’ve known me for so long, ou should know I would never hurt a child, right?”
ler voice trembled, looking pitiful and innocent.
My heart sank heavily.
lowered my eyes, preparing to watch Evan silently side with her, just like that man always did.
