Chapter 67
The next morning I’m up early. The funeral is in the morning with a wake at midday. I roll over to watch my angel sleep and brush the hair away from her beautiful face. I trace lines over her armor tattoos along her arm and remember a time when her skin was completely clear and soft. She looks like the warrior badass she is like this, her outside now showing what’s inside her soul as well. Luca did a good job at covering the many scars but if you look closely enough you can see they’re there. I give her a quick kiss before I get ready for the day in my black suit and head downstairs to meet with the security teams for today to give them a rundown.
“Team Alpha, Puppies and Driver Watch”
The guys separate so that the ones I want at attention today are in front of me..
“Today is Ariana’s brothers funeral. As you all know, the Salvatores for a long time were enemies and although we came to a truce in the end, we are still unsure of how many of them stayed loyal to her father. I need everyone to be keeping a keen eye today. Puppies, I want Jeremy, Hayes and Hudson to flank closely to Ariana all day, not leaving her sight for anything. James, Ramen and Brody I want you guys from a distance of no more than 20 meters at all times. Team Alpha, working between yourselves to create a barrier around 50 meters. Drivers watch, you know your job well, do it perfectly today. No one fuck up today.”
“Yes Don!” They all shout and I dismiss them back to their posts and make my way back to our room. Tony already texted to let me know they’re getting ready to leave and Molly is making breakfast wraps for everyone to eat on the go.
Ariana looks like the beautiful dark angel she is dressed in a long black silk gown, a high slit that reaches her thigh and a modest neckline with thin straps that display her tattoos perfectly. She’s left her long black hair down and chose a wide brim black hat with a black veil to cover her face. “Are you ready, Angel?” I ask holding out my arm for her.
“Not really but let’s do it anyway.”
The car ride is quiet, Tony and Luca went in the car behind us so that Jeremy, Hayes and Hudson could ride with us, staying close like I have ordered them to
“Stop the fucking car!” She yells at Jeremy who’s driving. Hayes looks back at us from the passenger seat and I tap Jeremy’s seat to let him know to do it. He screeches to the side of the road, and I see Hayes on the phone letting the other cars know what’s happening. Ariana is sat in the middle of Hudson and I so when the car stops, she jumps over his lap for the door and tumbles out of the door. She rips her hat off throwing it to the ground and braces her hands on her knees. Hudson is the first out and quickly grabs her hair, pulling it into a makeshift ponytail as she empties her stomach.
“Donna, Jesus fuck. Are you alright?” Hudson asks and I get around the car to them and rub her back.
“Get her some water, Hayes!”
Hayes gets her a bottle of water and a handkerchief to wipe her mouth with. She takes both as I lean her on the side of the car and look into her
“Sorry, must be the nerves…” she mumbles out. “I’m okay now, we can go.”
I’d rather take her home and save her from all this mess, but she needs to do this. She needs to face it and lay her brothers to rest.
I take the phone from Hayes and let Tony and Luca know what we’re good to go as Hudson dusts off her hat and helps her put it back on. He’s fixing her hair and making sure she looks the part.
“You’re alright little Donna, deep breaths, you’ve got this.”
“Thanks Hudson, sorry about this.”
“Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve gotten to hold a pretty girls hair back while she throws her guts up.” He winks at her and I watch from the corner of my eye as she laughs and gets back in the car.
We make it to the funeral in another 20 minutes of driving where Tony and Luca are already waiting with the rest of the teams. It’s a larger turn out than I had expected but i guess her family did have a big name for themselves and I have no right to turn anyone away. This isn’t for me at the end of the day. We find our way to the front of the church and take our seats. We file in so that Hudson, Jeremy and Tony are on one side of her and Luca, Hayes and I are on the other side. Ariana doesn’t acknowledge anyone on the way in, but all eyes are on her. The two closed caskets sit on the alter and a priest stands behind them, saying sweet things and giving blessings as they do. I can hear women crying but I don’t take my eyes off my girl. She sits straight, with her head held high and not a flicker of emotion on her face from underneath her veil.
