Chapter 116
I called for the maid’s service to clean up the house. I’m not in any shape to be cleaning, not when my latest stash got thrown down the toilet and my party ruined. Stupid golden boys. I love them, my brothers, don’t get me wrong but fuck it frustrates me how they can do anything they want, and I’m forced to act like I’m not the daughter of the largest mafia family in the country. My dad’s and my brothers like to think they are oh so smart and hide every little dirty secret from me, but I know better. I know what they do, what business they’re in. I’ve seen it. Snuck along on their missions and stayed out of sight. I’ve heard their conversations when they think I’m not listening. It only angers me more the way they treat me like a fragile piece of fine crystalware, when my brothers are trading guns, drugs, hurting and killing people and not to mention running strip clubs like the one my Mom used to work in when she met my dad’s. They didn’t mind her being in the game, but me? Oh no, not a hair on my pretty little head should ever be corrupted. The thought of it is idiotic. Stupid. Downright fucked.
I make a mental note to get Sebastion to hook me up with something at school tomorrow. Literally anything. I’m never picky about my choice of drug, just something that will get me high and take me away from this feeling of being surrounded by people but still so utterly alone.
Morning comes too quickly, and I feel the groggy side effects from last night. A little lick and dip would have picked me up nicely this morning. “Fucking Hunter.” I grumble out, stumbling out of bed to the shower. I wash myself from head to toe and let the warm water relax my muscles. I dry my long black hair and style it into the school standard slicked back bun. I match the uptight do with the awful school uniform, a black and green stripped, knee high skirt and stockings with a white, tucked in button up and black and green blazer. It’s a monstrosity of a uniform and the school isn’t much better. Ash Lake High. A school for elites, children of money whose parents want to be assured of their safety, but most importantly, their status in life. It’s almost impossible for anyone to attend and fail, not when everyone’s parents are paying for them to pass with flying colours and Mom made sure we attended. It doesn’t operate like a normal high school, nope, in your senior years all of the normal classes are minimized, and you start studying for your college degrees. Putting you in front of the rat race that is life. I wasn’t given much choice of what I wanted to do in life. Originally my dads were pushing for me to become a lawyer like Hunter will be, but I think that’s just because he wanted me to be in all of his classes and I sure as hell wasn’t going to let that happen. I’ve had to spend every waking moment around Kaiden and Hunter, then when we started high school, Mason became like a third appendage too. Always around, always teasing me, hovering over me, stopping all the fun just like my brothers. So, I’m studding to become a surgeon, with none of the guys in those classes, I get a reprieve in my days at school. My great Aunt Camilla likes to teach me a lot of stuff. Although she was never a surgeon, she’s a great doctor and has had firsthand experience in all the aftermath of my family’s criminal activates, so I learn a lot from her, and she was probably the proudest of my choice.
The sounds and smells of breakfast great me as I descend the stairs. Kaiden, Hunter and Mason already seated at the table, in their crisp school uniforms that are literally just suits. Always suits with these guys. Their plates remain empty, despite the spread in front of them. They always wait for me. I take a seat next to Mason, across from Kaiden and Hunter, the latter signaling from the staff to leave from their places in the corner of the room. Kaiden reaches across the table from me, taking my mug and pouring my coffee, then handing it to Hunter who pours in creamer and two sugars, stirring it before placing it back in front of me. Something they’ve always done as well. They would probably be over the moon if I was paralyzed and they could do everything for me. I’m the Princess of the Donatello Family, and the Princess should never lift a finger. That’s how the treat me. Mason takes my plate and begins piling food on to it. Bacon, eggs, sausage, blueberry muffins, not one, but two and then returns it to me, nodding to the plate. “Eat“. I give him a mock salute, and I swear I could see the faintest hint of a smirk before his eyes turn cold again. Kaiden clears his throat, and I give him my attention.
‘Mum and our Dads are extending their trip. They’d like you to call them tonight.”
“Did you tell them?”
He scoffs. “Of course not. You’re our responsibility. I’m not about to tell them we fucked up.”
I roll my eyes at him and push my plate away, my appetite gone.
“You do know we’re the exact same age, right?”
‘Age has nothing to do with it, Isla, you’re…”
I cut him off, “The Princess.” I mock his voice. “Yeah, yeah, I get it. Can we just get to school already? I want to hit the study hall before class.‘
His eyebrow raises in question. “It’s the first day. What could you be studying for?”
Im the Princess, remember? I’ve been studying for my doctorate since last year to be the ‘perfect‘ little Princess.”
The ride to school is quiet. Kaiden drives, Hunter in the passenger and Mason and I in the back. The only sound is the slight murmur of the radio. I’m just itching to get inside, to find Sebastion and get away from these guys. The car pulls into the reserved spot for our family and I’m straight out the door.
*Isla, wait! Kaiden barks.
“What? I’ve got somewhere to be.”
