Iris was good at housework. She kept everything in order and listened to Megan. Besides, she was stunning and had a great figure.

That was why Megan didn’t ask Heriberto to divorce Iris, although she objected to this arranged marriage by Eleanor and despised the bankrupt Aguilera family.

When Iris came out of the kitchen with the fruit platter, Heriberto and his parents were nowhere to be seen in the liv- ing room.

A domestic worker told her they had gone to the study.

So, Iris went upstairs with the fruit platter.

“What did you say? You want Iris to have an abortion and to divorce her?”

Iris heard Megan yelling in a shrill voice as soon as she got off the elevator.

She paused.

“What? This is because of the woman named Melanie again? Huh?”

Megan raised her voice, apparently furious.

Yes, she loathed the bankrupt Aguilera family. But the poor and manipulative Melanie was worse.

Megan wished to separate Heriberto from this woman. So, when Eleanor forced him to marry Iris, she didn’t object.

“Listen, Heriberto. If you wanna have an affair with Melanie, fine by me. But now, you wanna kill Iris’s babies, di- vorce her, and marry Melanie? Over my dead body!” Megan roared.

Her voice dripped with rage.

Iris had never seen Megan so mad at Heriberto after Julian’s death.

“Babies or no babies. I’m divorcing Iris,” Heriberto said.

He sounded calm yet determined.

This was a conversation between the Hales. Iris felt it was inappropriate for her to eavesdrop, but Heriberto came out of the study before she could leave.

Their eyes met. Heriberto wore a frosty expression. If looks could kill, she’d be dead now.

Iris smiled faintly at him. Her arms were sore, or perhaps she did it on purpose. The platter suddenly slipped out of her hands. It dropped to the floor with a thud and fell at her feet.

Chapter 11

Hearing the commotion, Charlie and Megan rushed out of the study.

“Iris, are you OK?”

Worried about the babies, Megan looked at Iris up and down.

Iris smiled, “Megan, I’m fine. It was an accident.”

“Iris, don’t worry. Charlie and I won’t let Heriberto divorce you. Just take care of the babies and give birth to them with no worries. Leave the rest to me,” Megan comforted her.

She guessed Iris had heard everything.

Smiling, Iris turned to Heriberto.

The look in his eyes had grown even colder.

He only sneered, “Iris, well played!”

With that, he strode away.

Heriberto came back to Acme Villa. Agnese received him.

She took his suit jacket from him and brought him a pair of slippers.

Then, she got him a warm glass of water and handed it to him respectfully.

Iris used to do these things for him. Agnese was doing exactly the same. But somehow, Heriberto felt everything was out of place.

It annoyed him and made him irritable.

When he came upstairs, he glimpsed the photo of him, Julian, and Iris on the wall, and his mood became worse.

The photo was taken eight years ago at Southdeer Manor, Eleanor’s place.
