After Sonia left, she said to Jenny on the way out, “Thank God that went okay.”
Jenny looked at Sonia like she wanted to say something but held back.
Sonia noticed Jenny’s expression and frowned. “Jenny, what’s with that look?”
Jemy let out a heavy sigh. “You really think everything’s fine?”
“What do you mean?”
“Sure, they don’t have proof–because I made up an excuse to produce the diamond. But they’ve already planted seeds of doubt. Next time, maybe think before you act, or you’re gonna have a world of trouble.”
Sonia got pissy. What did she mean, trouble?
Wasn’t a manager’s job to clean up their talent’s messes? Why was Jenny acting all reluctant about it?
Just then, Jenny’s phone rang. She checked the caller ID–Aurora.
Jenny felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. She answered, her expression growing more serious by the second. “Okay, I understand.”
After hanging up, Jenny told Sonia, “I’m taking you back to your apartment. All your bookings are canceled for the foreseeable future. Time to lay low and rest up.”
Sonia’s smile vanished. Her face darkened. “Aurora told you to do this? She’s putting me on ice?”
Jenny sighed helplessly. “That’s the gist of it.”
Sonia exploded.
“Aurora came begging me to join her startup company because she couldn’t sign any decent talent! If it wasn’t for me, she never would’ve been able to attract other quality artists. Now they’re all doing better than me! How can she be so ungrateful!”
Sonia spun around and started heading back. “No way. I’m going to find Aurora and get some answers. What the hell does she think she’s doing!”
Jenny quickly grabbed Sonia’s arm and sighed. “Look, Aurora wanted to protect you, but… you pissed off the wrong guy. Cassian Rhodes.”
No more words were needed. Sonia finally got it.
Her nose started stinging, her eyes swelling up. Tears fell as she choked out, “For that bitch Anastasia, Cassian actually went this far?!”
Jenny sighed and patted Sonia’s shoulder. “Just let it go. The way you are right now, stay away from Anastasia. Keep your head down and rest for a while. Aurora didn’t cancel your contract, and Cassian didn’t officially announce he’s blacklisting you. This is just a soft freeze. Once he cools off, you’ll
be fine.”
“How long is ‘a while‘?!” Sonia snapped.
“Unless you’ve got other ideas?” Jenny asked.
