Cassian quickly offered an explanation. “My hands were probably still a little damp earlier, so that’s why Grandma didn’t want the massage fe dried them properly now–would it be okay if I tried again?”
Her grandmother wanted to refuse, but she saw the hopeful expression on Cassian’s face, as if he really wanted to prove himself.
Well, how could she refuse such earnest enthusiasm?
Ana chimed in, “Grandma, he’s really good at massages. They’re so relaxing I almost fall asleep every time.”
“Well…”
“Just let me try, Grandma?” Cassian asked gently.
“Alright then.”
At first, her grandmother felt a bit awkward, but soon she was completely enjoying it.
Smart people really did excel at everything they put their minds to.
“I think Grandma fell asleep,” Ana whispered, watching her grandmother’s head nodding as she dozed.
Cassian stopped to check, and sure enough, she was fast asleep.
“I should carry her to bed. The couch isn’t comfortable for sleeping,” he said softly.
“Okay.”
Cassian carefully lifted her grandmother and carried her to the bedroom.
She stirred slightly when he picked her up and smiled at him drowsily. “Honey…”
“Grandma, it’s Cassian.”
“Mmm, my grandson–in–law,” she murmured before drifting off again.
Watching Cassian gently tuck her grandmother into bed and quietly close the door, Ana felt her eyes well up with emotion.
“Let’s go,” Cassian whispered.
Ana nodded, reaching for his hand as they headed out together.
“Let’s take a walk and then come back,” Cassian suggested.
Ana looked at him curiously. “Hm?”
“You want Grandma to come live with us, right?”
Ana nodded. More than anything.
But was it even possible? Her grandmother would never agree.
Cassian squeezed Ana’s hand playfully. “She doesn’t want to live with us because she doesn’t want to be a burden, and she’s not used to it.”
He paused thoughtfully. “But we can help her get used to it. Today she already let me give her a massage. Tomorrow when she wakes up and finds out we stayed the night, she’ll be surprised. But that’s okay–if we stay here for a few days and she gets used to me taking care of her, maybe she won’t he able to do without me.”
Ana was deeply moved. Everything Cassian was doing and thinking was far beyond what she’d imagined.
