Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 67

Chapter 67

Anna’s POV:

The once immaculate living room had transformed into something rely recognizable. An open bag of halfeaten chips sat on the coffee table. Dance magazines were strewn across the sofa, carelessly flipped open to pages featuring male ballet dancers I didn’t recognize.

I frowned, disliking the disarray.

Claire’s possessions littered every available surface, even the floor. I was as if she had marked her territory while I was away, making sure I’d notice her presence the moment I returned.

I headed upstairs, stopping midway when I heard the front door open.

Blake walked in, caring Claire in his arms. She nestled in his embrace like a lifesized ballet doll. I leaned against the banister, watching them with a practiced calm.

Now I understood what kind of woman Blake preferred: submissive, petite, someone who needed protecting.

I used to be the picture of elegance and proprietyqualities I could easily reclaim. The moment I’d walked back into this mansion, fragments of my former self had already begun resurfacing.

Claire looked up and waved at me, her smile dazzlingly bright.

Anna!she called out excitedly.

Two months ago, I might have found her childish enthusiasm endearing. Now her smile seemed loaded with hidden meaning.

It was strange how we both acted as if nothing had happened, like we’d collectively agreed to ignore certain truths.

Claire seemed to believe that what was done was done, making her even bolder in her actions.

Anna, I thought you weren’t coming back, she said, still perched in Blake’s arms. The master bedroom’s full of my stuff. I’ll move it out soon.

The master bedroom has better lighting,I replied coolly. If you like it, stay. I just need to grab some things. I’ll take another

room.

I turned and headed back upstairs, feeling a cold gaze following me.

The master bedroom was flooded with afternoon sunlight so harsh I had to shield my eyes, my arm trembling slightly from the effort.

Our matching pillowsmine and Blake’shad been tossed carelessly on the floor.

In their place on the bed was a pink, lacetrimmed balletthemed pillow nestled right against Blake’s.

I couldn’t help but imagine the nights I’d been away. Had he slept pressed against her? Had he wrapped his ar way he used to hold, me?

I bent down to pick up my discarded pillow, stripping off the case and throwing it into the laundry basket. Without a word, I collected what I needed and moved into a guest room on the first floor.

Later that evening, I found Martha, our housekeeper, in the kitchen. Her face brightened when she saw me, though worry lines

creased her forehead.

Mrs. Wright, thank goodness you’re back, she said, lowering her volte. Please talk to Claire. She runs to the master bedroom in her nightgown every nightit’s not appropriate.

Martha wrung her hands nervously. We staff don’t like to gossip, bo Mr. Wright says she needs leg massages after dance practice. Ma’am, I’ve already heard staff whispering.

She suddenly stiffened, eyes widening. Mr. Wright!

Blake stood in the doorway, his expression hard. Make a list for An, Martha. We’ll fire them.

Of course,I said, my voice Larefully gentle.

His behavior is inappropriate, yet he’s worried about gossip, I thought, fighting a wave of nausea. I pictured Blake’s hands moving up and down Claire’s legs, massaging them intimately. I pushed the image away, reminding myself that now wasn’t the time to show my displeasure.

At dinner, Blake sat at the head of the table with Claire and me flankinghim on either side.

Have you tried the wine with the steak?Claire asked, sliding her chair slightly closer to Blake’s. The pairing is exquisite.

He took a sip, nodding in agreement. You always had the better palate.

Only because you taught me everything I know about wine, she replied, gazing at him with undisguised adoration.

How was rehearsal today? Is your leg feeling any better?

Much better,Claire answered, touching his arm. I have tickets for you for opening night. Front row center.

I wouldn’t miss it,he said with rare warmth in his voice.
