Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 66

Anna’s POV:

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the cemetery as Mother’s ashes were laid to rest.

What I hadn’t expected was Seth Price hovering nearby throughout the entire ceremony.

Blake had made it clear that family matters didn’t require Mr. Prices concern, but Seth had insisted on paying his respects to Mrs. Anderson. His eyes were rimmed with red, more emotion than I’d allowed myself to show.

I caught Blake casting calculating glances at Seth more than once. When Blake’s phone rang and he stepped away to take the call, Seth seized the opportunity to approach me.

Anna,he said quietly, his voice barely above a murmur, if you ever need anything, just tell me. I’m not as useless as you might

think.

Do all men enjoy playing hero?I replied with a touch of bitterness. Michael said the same thing, and look what happened to him. Suspended because of you.

Seth’s jaw tightened. So you went running to Blake for help instead? Why didn’t you come to me?

I sighed. I did ask you.

As Seth opened his mouth to respond, I cut him off. Seth, this is my mom’s funeral. Can I have some peace and quiet?

You remember it’s your mother’s funeral? His voice rose slightly. What exactly have you been doing at your own mother’s

funeral?

The accusation in his tone made my stomach clench. I suddenly realized how his feelings for me had crossed a line, and it made me deeply uncomfortable.

Seth, are we that close?I asked pointedly.

He laughed, a harsh sound. No, not at all. I just happen to know how you got seasick on your father’s yacht, how you skipped school to watch dolphins, how you embarrassed yourself at the junior prom when-

Enough.I raised a hand. Look, Blake probably just missed me. And I couldn’t bear to let him feel neglected.

Seth’s face reddened, though whether from anger or embarrassment, couldn’t tell.

You love him that much? His voice was rough.

I noticed Blake might be within earshot, standing by anearby gravestone. Yes. I love him very much, I said, deliberately raising my

voice slightly.

Seth’s expression darkened. Anna, after today, we probably won’t even be friends anymore, so let me be straight with you. We grew up together. We know everything about each other. I knew you first. What does he have that I don’t?

I softened my tone but kept my words firm. Like you said, we know all each other’s embarrassing sto.

No matter how successful

or impressive you become, I still see that boy who put frogs in my backpack. You’re great, Seth, but it’s not possible between us.

If you admit I’m great, what are you afraid of? What if I don’t care that you’re married?

His confidence shocked me.

Chapter 66

You are great, but not for me. You should find a girl who falls for yo at first sight. I hated how my next words sounded, but I needed him to back off. Besides, I have no plans to divorce. Marrying Blake Wright was already reaching above my station.

Seth forced a casual smile. Fine Just wait until I see you crying someday.

I gave bi

a faint smile, thinking that I hadn’t even shed tears when they put my mother in the ground.

I’d seen through the illusion of emotional attachments and didn’t want to carry that burden anymore. I patted his shoulder, hoping it would give us both some closure.

When Blake returned, Seth automatically moved away from me, looking like a defeated lion.

Blake didn’t ask any questions, just watched the proceedings with an expression more solemn than minethe actual daughter of the deceased.

Seth stayed until the very end, watching as my mother’s remains were sealed away.

At the bottom of the cemetery, hill, Blake and I prepared to return to Seaside Manor. Seth couldn’t follow us there, and we parted

ways.
