Chapter 266
Anna’s POV:
I’m allowing you to work at my company because I feel sorry for you.”
The words hung in the air between us, I watched Caroline’s face, her eyes widening with disbelief as my statement hit her.
She was literally trembling with anger now, and I couldn’t help but notice how unfamiliar this position was for her–being looked down upon by someone
younger.
I continued coldly, not giving her a chance to recover. “BlueWave might not be as powerful as Wright Group, but if Wright Group won’t feed year, I can. As long as you behave yourself, supporting you for the rest of your life wouldn’t be a problem. Consider it repayment for our mother–in–law relationship these past years.”
My expression hardened as I emphasized each word: “But that’s all there is to it.”
Caroline’s face turned cold. “Anna, why does this sound like a threat? What have I done wrong? Yes, I’ve attended a few meetings under BlueWave’s name, and met some executives, but have I done anything that harmed your company?”
I smirked. “Not yet. But who knows about the future? I hear you’ve been getting quite close with our new financial manager, Jennifer Morgan?*
Caroline’s expression immediately shifted to panic. “That’s not fair, Anna. Jennifer and I hit it off immediately. She’s the one who invited me to those meetings. Can’t I make friends?”
“Who you befriend is none of my business,” I said firmly. “But I’m warning you not to get any funny ideas. Taking advantage of your position isn’t as easy as you think. Let me be clear–I will not tolerate anything that damages company interests.”
Caroline’s rigid posture relaxed slightly at my words. She probably thought: Anna’s barely at the company, what could she possibly know?
She tried changing the subject, attempting to counter–attack. “Was it that Daniel who’s been gossiping to you? Anna, can’t you get a different male assistant? It’s not appropriate for a married woman to always have a man around-
“Caroline!” I cut her off. “You’ll soon no longer be my mother–in–law. I don’t think you need to concern yourself with these matters.” I stood up and glanced toward the door. “I have things to do. Please see yourself out.”
Caroline’s blood pressure visibly spiked; she was swaying as she walked, muttering “None of my business…” under her breath. She stood up to leave, slamming the door hard enough to shake the walls on her way out.
I watched her go, feeling annoyed but unbothered. She was like a grasshopper after autumn–not much jumping left to do.
Caroline’s POV:
I was fuming as I left Blue Wave Technologies. The nerve of that woman! Five hundred million in the settlement agreement–like she was throwing crumbs to a beggar, Anna Anderson Wright with all her money, looking down her nose at me.
But her warning had actually shown me a clear path forward. As soon as I got downstairs, I called Jennifer Morgan.
*Jennifer, darling, working late today?” I kept my voice light and friendly. “Oh, nothing special, just that a friend has a country club golf membership and invited us to attend the cocktail party and golf activities this weekend. I’ve already signed you up… Don’t worry about the cost, it’s nothing! As friends, this is just a small gesture…”
Anna’s POV:
Caroline moved fast. That same evening, I received a call from our financial manager, Jennifer Morgan.
“Ms. Anderson, Mrs. Wright has requested a transfer of $500,000 to her account. She says she’ll return it within two days.”
“At least she’s being cautious,” I replied, unsurprised.
