Anna’s POV:

I had become a human ping–pong ball, bouncing from one city to another.

My calendar was packed with meetings, site visits, and conferences. In the past month, I’d spent only four days in Boston.

Some people whispered that my sudden career success was because of my connection to Blake Wright. If only they knew that I hadn’t seen him for over a month.

“Mr. Wright is currently in Singapore for business,” his assistant informed me when I called his office. Her voice was perfectly neutral, giving away nothing

I nodded, though she couldn’t see me through the phone. “Thank you. No need to tell him I called.”

Hanging up, I stared at my phone. Blake had told me to “wait for news.” So I waited.

Through the bitter end of winter and into the early bloom of spring, I waited. No calls. No messages. Nothing.

I didn’t want to call his personal phone again. Last time, I’d heard Claire’s voice in the background, and that was enough to make me want to throw my phone out the window.

My only connection to the Wright family now was Caroline, William’s wife and Claire’s mother. Our relationship had taken a strange turn after I secretly purchased Wright Group shares through Daniel.

William’s estate couldn’t openly benefit Caroline anymore, and the shareholders would never allow her to be involved in company operations or profits. Caroline understood this reality perfectly, which explained her sudden excessive kindness toward me.

I was considering how to handle Caroline. She had hurt me, yes, but not enough for me to harbor a deep vendetta.

I just wanted her to surrender some assets as punishment. A small price to pay for what she’d done.

My thoughts were interrupted by Daniel’s call.

“What should I do if Caroline won’t invest with me? She’s acting like I’m trying to scam her,” Daniel complained. “She’s too cautious. We need to gain her trust before we can make any real moves.”

‘Don’t underestimate her,” I replied. “She’s been by William’s side for decades. She doesn’t have much money now, so of course she’s cautious. Let her taste some profit first, and she’ll trust you.”

My phone buzzed with another call.

The name “Monica Jones” flashed on my screen, making my heart skip a beat.

‘Daniel, I’ll call you back,” I said quickly and switched calls. “Monica?”

“Anna.” Her voice was cold and serious. “Tell me where you got those health supplements you asked me to test.”

I forced myself to stay calm. Do you have results?

“Yes, and whatever supplements they are, don’t take another sip. I’ve called my former classmate who now works at Boston Medical Center. You ne examination this afternoon.”

I tried to sound casual. “Blake’s stepmother went to great lengths to get them for me. What’s wrong? Are they poisonous?
