Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 239

Chapter 239

Anna’s POV:

I looked at him with contempt and disdain before locking the bathroom door behind me.

I turned on the shower, the sound of the rushing water instantly isolating me from the outside world.

I wanted a moment of peace, but suddenly, there was a loud bang. Blake had slammed the door shut.

I listened numbly, then stepped under the shower, hoping the heat would envelop me and case my aching body.

But the moment the water hit me, the burning pain intensified, making it impossible to stand upright.

I couldn’t tell if the wetness on my face was from the hot water or my tears

After what happened last night, Blake didn’t stop me. The next morning, I left for a business trip out of town.

I extended my threeday business trip to a week. The thought of returning to Seaside Manor made my stomach twist into knots.

Blake hadn’t even stepped out the door when I leftnot a single step to see me off.

I should go with you,Daniel insisted as I packed my suitcase that morning.

No, I need you here,I said firmly. You’ve already helped secure those Wright Group shares. Keep working on the minority shareholdersthat’s more important right now.

Truth was, I needed space. Space from Blake, from the mansion, from the suffocating reality

of

my marriage.

The small marine ecology assessment project gave me the perfect excuse to escape, and I was clinging to it like a lifeline.

By the second day, I’d settled into my hotel routinereviewing documents in bed rather than at the designated worksite.

My phone buzzed with a message from Blake: [Are you coming home today? I’ll pick you up from the airport.]

I scoffed, shoving the phone into my pocket without responding. Probably just keeping up appearances for William’s sake.

Blake’s sudden interest in my whereabouts was transparently tied to his promise to his father about producing an heir. The same promise he’d made before

his father’s health took a turn for the worse.

On the fourth evening, I found an envelope at the hotel’s front deska VIP ticket to a local music festival with a note: [Thank you for supporting our project. Hope you enjoy what the city has to offer tonight.]

I was still debating whether to go when Emily called.

Please tell me you’re not holed up in your hotel reviewing files, she said.

I laughed dryly. That’s exactly what I’m doing.

Anna, seriously? You’re out of town, Blake’s not therelive a little! When was the last time you did something just for fun?

She had a point.

The next day, I found myself at the venue, surprised by the intimate setting. Instead of the pulsing electronic beats I’d expect the center stage.

a grand piano dominated

The crowd hushed as a tall figure stepped onto the stage. Even with the black mask covering half his face, I knew instantlyBlake. My breath caught in my throat.

Who is that? someone behind me whispered.

Don’t know, but he’s got presence,another replied.

Blake sat at the piano, his back straight, shoulders squared the posture I’d seen countless times during Wright family events

When he turned to face the audience, his eyes found mine immediately, as if he’d known exactly where I stond among hundreds of people.

Tinstinctively stepped back, but there was nowhere to go in the packed crowd.

His long fingers touched the keys, and the melody that emerged wasn’t the upbeat festival music playing earlier. It was something deeper, more haunting

Then he began to sing, his low voice filling the space with a songOcean Heart.

The lyrics washed over me like waves.

When you turned away, I should have held tight,

Now regrets fill the darkness, stealing my light.

Time rushes on like waves to the shore,

But my heart’s still anchored, loving you more.

In the silence between us, where dreams used to play,
