Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 234

Chapter 234

Anna’s POV:

William looked genuinely pleased to see me, his face lighting up despite the sterile hospital surroundings.

Outside, rain pelted against the windows, occasional lightning flashes illuminating the room.

Anna, my dear. What a pleasant surprise,he said, gesturing to the chair beside his bed. Caroline could come tell you about the past if you’re curious. She knows Blake quite well.

I settled into the chair, my hands clasped tightly in my lap. What I want to know, Caroline doesn’t know.

William’s eyebrows rose slightly. I took a deep breath and decided to be direct.

He’s taking some kind of medication.

His expression changed instantly, shifting from warm to guarded. My dear, you shouldn’t listen to business rivals spreading rumors. Wright Group has many competitors who’d love to undermine Blake’s reputation.

When I didn’t respond, he continued, contradicting himself. My son doesn’t have those kinds of problems. That’s ridiculous.

Then his voice softened with concern. You can safely get pregnant, Anna. Whatever you’re worried about, it definitely isn’t hereditary.

Lightning flashed outside as I waited for him to continue. Eventually, he sighed and began speaking again.

Blake’s mother was kind and gentle. She had thisquality about her. I fell in love quickly, and we had Blake soon after. His eyes grew distant. But she was fragile, suffered from severe anxiety. After Blake was born, her postpartum depression worsened dramatically. Even a baby’s cry could trigger extreme anxiety attacks.

I tried to picture baby Blake, imagining how confusing it must have been for him.

The nanny had to keep a pacifier in his mouth constantly to prevent any noise. His maternal grandmother moved in with us, supposedly to help. William’s jaw tightened. That woman blamed me for her daughter’s condition and transferred that hatred to Blake.

Rain drummed harder against the window as William continued.

She’d scream at him: Shut up! Don’t make a sound!Even when he was just a toddler.

My stomach twisted at the thought of a small child being treated so cruelly.

After his mother passed away, it got worse. His grandmother would tell him, If it weren’t for you, your mom would still be alive!and Your crying caused her anxiety attacks that led to her breakdown!William’s voice cracked slightly. She’d scream that he was the noisy little pest who caused her emotional collapse and eventual death.

And you let this happen? The words slipped out before I could stop them.

William looked away. I was devastated by my wife’s death. I thought buying him toys and giving him everything money could buy would make up for it.

He described how Blake changedgrowing increasingly silent, no longer expressing desires for toys, isolating himself in his room, becoming so quiet they’d sometimes forget he was there.

I’d find him staring blankly at some point in the sky, lacking the vitality a child should have. Like an empty shell.WilliamI finally realized how serious it was, I tried to connect with him, consulted psychologists, followed their advice and sent his

Then I married Caroline, thinking she and Claire would be good for him. It was all for Blake’s sakeI wanted him to experience maternal love.

He added, I did it all for Blake’s sake. Otherwise I wouldn’t have married another woman and created this mess.

A flash of lightning suddenly cut through the window, piercing the hospital room with harsh light that carved across William’s face, revealing his smug

expression.

He looked proud, almost like a savior who had rescued Blake from some terrible fate.

My heart felt heavy. Just hesring William’s perspective was oppressive. In his entire account, I realized Blake hadn’t spoken a single word.

At such a young age, his natural spirit completely suppressed. I wondered if Blake had felt helpless and afraid as a child.

I sat silently, my heart aching for the little boy who’d been taught that his voice, his very existence, was harmful. No wonder Blake was to reserved, to controlled.

So Claire is particularly important to Blake, isn’t she?I pressed.

I wanted him to have a complete family,William replied firmly. Blake needs a wife and children to have something to care about in this world. His eyes locked with mine. No matter how important you think certain people are to him, blood relatives always matter more:
