Chapter 223
Anna’s POV:
I pushed Blake away, the smell of alcohol heavy on his breath, as if td been drinking too. His sudden show of affection caught me off guard.
If this had been me a few years ago, I would have responded to him eagerly.
Wasn’t his affection exactly what I’d always wanted?
There was a time when just hearing Blake Wright’s name would send me running to him without hesitation.
But now, something felt missing.
I steadied him by the arm, helping him remove his coat and shoes. ‘I don’t like talking to people when they’re drunk, I said.
Alcohol is a strange thing–it amplifies emotions infinitely, transforming fleeting feelings into something that seems real.
And when sober again, all he’d need was a casual, “Sorry, I had too much to drink.” Or maybe not even an apology at all.
I tried to guide him to bed, but he grabbed my arm, cupping my face in his hands. In the next moment, his eyes–sickeningly sweet with false emotion- locked onto mine.
He was already leaning down, yet I still had to stand on my tiptoes to match his height.
“It’s just a kiss,” Blake murmured against my neck.
His passionate kisses left my mind blank, and his hands roamed restlessly over my body. By the time he had me pinned down on the bedroom bed, there was hardly any fabric left on me.
“Blake, have you ever considered that what you feel for me might just be biological? Physical attraction, not actual love?”
“You keep everyone at a distance, but you don’t mind my touch,” I said. “Maybe your DNA just recognizes me as someone who complements your genetic makeup. That’s not real affection.”
“If you don’t want children, we won’t have any,” he said.
He lowered his head and bit down hard on my collarbone, making me stifle a groan.
“If you keep making those sounds,” Blake said, his lips on my collarbone, ‘I won’t be able to control myself.”
I saw the struggle in his eyes. After leaving a mark on my skin, he pulled back and covered me with the blanket before lying beside me. He reached across, taking my hand.
I noticed his shirt had ridden up and tugged it down. As his breathing steadied, I wondered if he was as confused by his feelings as I was.
When I woke, it was dark. I found Blake at the living room windows, staring at the city lights..
“Look outside,” he said.
I stood beside him. The skyline sparkled with thousands of lights against the night sky.
“Nothing more beautiful,” Blake said.
I felt tears forming and quickly wiped them away. All I could think was how our child should have been here to see this too.
The night before the charity gala, social media buzzed about a light show.
“Which millionaire is impressing his wife this time?” someone joked online.

People notited it matched a previous display, bringing up Blake and Scarlett’s names again.
I got a message from a familiar username: Don’t listen to them. All beautiful views are meant for you alone:}
I looked up and caught Blake turning his phone face–down. His throat moved nervously.
Was this his way of breaking the silence? If those past incidents with Scarlett were just Blake’s truth.
attempts to make me jealous… I didn’t want to face that
Time had passed, but the pain was still fresh. I couldn’t even fake a smile for him.
Blake’s phone rang. Scarlett’s voice came through clearly.
“Blake, was that light show for my farewell? I was in the shower when I got the alert and ran to the window barely dressed, but still missed the best part. I’m so touched.”
