Chapter 222
Anna’s POV:
When I returned to Blake’s side, he suggested I visit his father,
For William, my return was good news–Blake mentioned it might even help improve his father’s condition.
I wondered if Blake’s persistence in getting me back had something to do with his father. He was, after all, devoted to family.
But I wasn’t some miracle cure. I didn’t know what role I should play when visiting William, even though Blake hadn’t forced me to go.
William had sent word that Blake and I should get along, preferably having “a child or two soon–maybe he could even see a grandchild while he was still alive.
The Wright family’s top priority now was ensuring no one disturbed Blake and me–a clear warning to him and Claire.
William had long seen through Claire’s feelings for Blake. Today’s phone call probably involved some self–pitying tactic that made the housekeeper feel sorry
for her.
The housekeeper’s voice was interspersed with Claire’s crying and the sound of porcelain, shattering. Even without her saying a word, I could sense a kind of hysterical madness.
“Clean up the mess right away. Don’t let her get hurt,” Blake said.
When Blake said this, I was genuinely surprised.
If I understood correctly, this meant he wasn’t planning to go back to her.
I quietly took off my formal dress, pretending not to care, but my heart was somewhat moved.
In all our years together, this seemed like the first time he had chosen me over Claire.
But the next second, I heard him tell the caretaker, “Tell Smokey not to upset Dad.”
I froze, then smiled slightly. I’d overthought things–I was the fool for getting my hopes up.
After hanging up, his fingertips unconsciously tapped the armrest of the sofa. To avoid disturbing headed for the bedroom.

The sound of fabric rustling came from behind me. Looking back, I bumped right into Blake’s arms,
He held me while I clutched my dress.
He took the dress from my hands, and my arms ended up wrapped around his waist.
I could tell he was in a bad mood.
So I obligingly said, “Go see Claire. I promise I won’t tell your father.”
Blake laughed dryly. “Anna, if you’d had this attitude earlier, we might not be where we are today.”
I pulled away. “From now on, you won’t have to choose. I won’t compete with her anymore.
I remembered our wrecked home – all that broken glass and furniture. Nothing left worth fighting for. Blake only cared about making sure those broken pieces didn’t hurt his precious Claire.
Suddenly, Blake pushed me onto the sofa and pinned me down.

What if I want you to fight?” he asked.
I froze.
“When I found out you were moving to New York,” he said, ‘I didn’t handle it well. I think I understand how you felt back then the held my face, and fra to know do you still feel the same? About us?
He stared intensely at me. “Now I’ve become who you once were.”
I need the truth, Anna.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
‘Blake, you think too highly of yourself,” I said coldly.
I’d loved him deeply once, and what did he do? Act possessive, not loving. His “difficult time was nothing compared to what I went through.
“I used to want the person I loved to love me back,” I told him. “But you’ve never understood what love is.”
“And what is love to you? Getting on my knees? Making public declarations?”
“That was just a joke,” I said flatly. “Blake, I don’t need you to understand love because I don’t love you anymore. Maybe someone else will teach you what love means.
The next morning, Blake’s jacket lay on the sofa. He hadn’t come back all night.
Daniel called. “The BlueWave Technologies share acquisition has competition,” he reported.
I guessed it was Blake. Sell our Blue Wave shares at a premium,” I said. “I want five percent of Wright Group stock instead.”
