Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 197

Anna’s POV:

I asked Daniel to go ahead without me, then I answered the phone.

Anna. His voice was oddly subdued.

What made you call? Aren’t you busy?I couldn’t help smiling.

Hmm, I missed you.

Looking up at the night sky, I noticed how clear it was. Where are you right now?

He paused for a couple seconds. Outside. I’m on a business trip. Just finished work.

Then look up. The moon is so full tonight,I said. If we round up, we’re basically watching the moon together.”

Seth chuckled but didn’t respond. I heard the faintest sigh from his end, and my smile faded.

Something felt off.

Seth was being unusually quiet, a stark contrast to his typical energetic self.

There’s a really bright star next to the moon. Can you see it?I asked, trying to gauge his mood.

Instead of answering, he said, Anna, let’s video chat.

My heart raced at the suggestion. I’d never video chatted casually with a man before, not even Blake.

I can’t see any stars,Seth continued, disappointment evident in his tone. Let’s video chat. You can help me look for them. Okay?

Okay!I answered, both determined and nervous.

When his face appeared on my screen, I saw he was wearing a black coat that almost blended into the night.

Smoke swirled around him, dispersed by the wind, giving him an almost surreal appearance.

You’re smoking?I frowned.

He took a deep drag, consuming the cigarette at an alarming rate.

Why so aggressively?I asked.

*Last one.He smiled at me, then pointed the camera at his feet, throwing the butt down and crushing it.

Feels like you don’t see me as a man. Isn’t smoking pretty normal?he said.

True. I just never saw you smoke before, so I was surprised. It’s nothing.

Huh,he scoffed. If Blake was smoking, would you tell him to cut back?

His deeply disappointed expression hit me like a punch to the chest. Why was he suddenly bringing up Blake?

Telling him wouldn’t make a difference. He’d smoke anyway, I replied.

So you have tried to persuade him.

Chapter 197

Seth lowered his head, the screen shaking. When he reappeared, he’d fit another cigarette.

Seth, are you drunk?I asked.

Do I sound drunk to you? His tone was casual. Help me find that star, Anna. Everything seems dark to me.

But it is darkI said, confused.

He narrowed his eyes. When you love someone, you worry about them. You don’t love me, so you don’t care if I smoke or not.

I stared at him, noticing how the moonlight defined his features more sharply than usual.

Just say what you want to say,I said directly.

I felt tired. Being with Seth was supposed to be when I could relax the most.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being independent individuals,I continued. I’m not a teenage girl anymore. I want to be capable on my own.

But you got hurt and didn’t even tell me?he challenged.

I instinctively touched my neck, and it hit mehe must be talking about this. After all, this cut was because of Maxwell, shocked that he knew about my injury.

I’m fine, I reassured him. Turn the camera back to you. This has nothing to do with you. It’s not your fault.

How can anything about you not be my business? His voice rose with emotion. Because you’re Anna! The woman I’ve liked for all these years!

I froze at his words. Seth’s deep, determined voice echoed in my ears, tightening my chest and sending warmth throughout my body.

Anna, that’s why I’m upset. Do you understand? I want you to tell me first when something happens. I want to share your happiness and pain. I want you to stand behind me and let me support you.

He continued passionately: I wanted my father’s approval so you’d be comfortable in the Price family. But if they treat you like this, how can I bring you home? We can live our own lives. We don’t need their blessing. Don’t you think Seth Price can make his own way without inheriting the family business? Compared to you, they really aren’t that important. I feel so guilty I couldn’t protect you.

Blake told me about this,he added, his voice bitter. Fucking ironic, right? Anyone else would’ve been better than him. But he’s rightthis is my problem to solve!

II stammered. I didn’t tell him. What did he say to you?

Doesn’t matter. I’ll absolutely make this right. Fuck the projectI’m done with it! Once I fix this, I’m coming to find you!

Then he said it, Then let’s be together!

The confession felt both unexpected and inevitable.

I don’t want you fighting with your family because of me,I replied. If you’re feeling down, come see me. I’m on a business trip too. You could visit to clear your head.
