Chapter 5
My father’s finger trembled as he pointed at Nicola. His eyes darted around, searching for something–anything–he could use to drive Nicola out.
“Dad”
“I understand your anger, but in the end, this is between my wife and me, isn’t it?”
“If someone’s going to act, it should be Sara, not your turn.”
For years, I had never dared challenge my father like this, but Nicola–he had the audacity to openly insult him.
My hand whipped through the air, the slap echoing like thunder across the room.

“Get out! Stop pretending to care about me
Nicola’s hand, tender yet uninvited, cupped my face.
“You’re my wife,” he said, his voice a low whisper, “of course you’re the most important.”
“Don’t you dare touch me!” I hissed.
“The divorce is already in motion–sign the papers and stop wasting our time.”
“Sara, this is how you’re going to treat me? Just because I’m sick, you want to divorce with me?”
“Alright, I’ll give in. I was wrong. I didn’t consider things from your perspective.”

“Today, I swear before the gods, I have already blacklisted all contact with Angela. Just… don’t divorce me.”
“But after you got pregnant, you always doubting me, questioning me. I knew this day would come, when your endless suspicions would tear us apart, when your doubts would ignite this fight between us.”
The man I’d shared my bed with every night could lie so effortlessly, turning everything upside down.
He’d never admit to anything unless I caught him red–handed with Angela.
As I listened to him, I realized if I didn’t forgive him today, it would cause even more chaos.

“Fine, you said it yourself. But will you really sever all ties with Angela?”
“Of course, I can do that!”
I nodded.
“Alright, you go home first. I’ll come back
soon.”
Nicola left, happy.
My father’s face darkened.
“After all this, you just forgive him like that?”
“Don’t worry, Dad. I have my own plan.”
After going home with my baby, he brought me lavish meals, as if to guilt me into
believing he’d changed.

After work, he lingered by the crib, his every move seemingly choreographed to win me back. “It’s my duty as your husband,”
A week later, I arranged to meet Angela at a secluded café
Angela arrived in full attire and sat down, smirking.
“You can’t even control your man’s heart, and now you’re here, blaming me?”
“He has blacklisted me for a while.”
“Maybe you should stop wasting your time blaming me and start figuring out how to actually keep your own man’s heart, since clearly, you’ve failed at that.”
Angela’s tone was calm, but each word was a provocation.

Then, with a loud slap, I slapped Angela across the face.
She covered her cheek, staring at me in disbelief.
I blew on my sore hand, smiling back.
“You’ve been the mistress all this time, so carefree, with my husband taking you abroad while he left me, a new mother, at home. You think I didn’t know?”
Angela sneered.
“Ah, so you’re not dumb after all. I heard you could tolerate Nicola, but I didn’t realize how far you’d go. It’s surprising how you pieced everything together.”
“So what, are you jealous now? We’ve
