“An engagement is just a formality to appease my family, to silence the board. After that, I’ll be right here with you. I’ll never treat you badly!”

Charles paced anxiously, and Tracy stepped forward, linking her arm with his, marking her territory.
“Vicky, today is the day of my engagement to Charles. Big shots from the business world are gathered here. You shouldn’t be here!”
“Be smart and leave now!”

Tracy’s words were laced with veiled threats.
Seeing the guests‘ murmurs growing louder, Charles’s expression darkened, and he signaled in the distance.
Several bodyguards quickly stepped forward and restrained me tightly.
“Take her back to the apartment, keep an eye on her, and don’t let her come out again!”
He locked eyes with me. “Vicky, I have my reasons. Go with them! After this is over, I’ll come find you!”
Tracy pretended to step forward to adjust my dress, whispering mockingly in my ear.

After saying this, she signaled to a woman standing nearby.
The woman lunged at me, her hand grabbing a handful of my hair, pulling my head back sharply. “You have no shame! How dare you still be here, causing trouble while they’re about to get engaged?”
Before I could react, she ripped the fabric of my dress. The roughness of the fabric splitting sent a sharp sting through me, and I gasped, unable to move as she twisted my hair.
I was a mess, never expecting Tracy to resort to such vile tactics.
