It was painful, but undeniable–three years of love wasted on a man who didn’t deserve it.
I looked at my parents‘ worried faces, and for the first time in a long while, I felt the weight lifting, replaced by warmth.
My mother’s gentle touch on my back, her voice soft, “The most important thing is you’re home.”
Just as the moment of peace enveloped me, Bucky, the butler, entered, his bow respectful. “Master, Madam, the Crown Prince of the Wilson Family has invited Miss to his engagement party.”
My mother, ever protective, hesitated, “You’re exhausted. Maybe we should-”

My parents had planned for me to attend in grand fashion, driving a luxury car, but I declined.
I wore a simple white dress and arrived alone at the Four Seasons Hotel New York, only to be stopped by security.
Suddenly, I heard a voice.
“Isn’t this Charles‘ little secret? Making a scene like this? She doesn’t belong here.”
“Ah, this is better than any reality show. Let me show you inside!”
The speaker, dressed in a custom suit, was Christopher.

As soon as I stepped into the lobby, the lively scene came to an immediate halt, and all eyes turned toward me.
“Victoria Winston?”
“Vicky?”
Tracy and Charles both shouted my name in unison from the stage.
“I’ve always known it–Victoria is just a cunning, poor girl. She plays the obedient role, but beneath it all, she’s clawing her way up the social ladder, desperate to get to the top!”
“Exactly. Now that Charles is engaged, her little fantasy is crushed, and she’s here to make a scene. Only someone like Charles would treat her like she’s worth anything.”
