Ethan was a bit taken aback, mulling over what Silvia had to say, then retorted, "Why should I trust your one-sided story?"
"Ethan, I might hurt others, but I would never hurt you." Silvia stared at Ethan seriously.
Ethan found this hilarious. Everything she had done had hurt the one he loved most, which indirectly hurt him. There was no difference between the two.
"Put away your hypocrisy. I won't collaborate with you. Don't even dream about it. No matter what you have with Russel, I won't work with someone like you."
"Ethan, what are you worried about? Are you afraid of me? I'm the one who's taking the risk, not you." Silvia smirked, her face full of confidence.
Ethan felt he made a mistake thinking that Silvia would know about the issue between Leila and Ines. He couldn't stand staying with her any longer and left abruptly.
Silvia's smirk faded as she watched Ethan leave. She turned to a young man who just walked out from backstage, "Did you get the photo I wanted?"
The man nodded, "I've sent it to your phone."
Silvia picked a slightly better photo from her phone, quickly edited a text and sent it to Ines. She didn't believe that there were such firm feelings in the world. Rumors became rumors because many people talked about them. Similarly, some fabricated stories can also become damaging weapons if frequently talked about.
She had seen clearly that what Ines cared most about was her sister. After all, a living person could never compare to a dead woman. Thinking of this, a cold smirk appeared on Silvia's face. Ines, I really wanted to see what your self-assured marriage would turn into.
Ines was driven home by the company driver. Ethan had told her he would work late. She didn't mind until she received a message from Silvia. It was a photo of Silvia and Ethan sitting across from each other. They weren't doing anything intimate, but the text underneath immediately caught her attention.
[Ines, if my sister hadn't died, do you think you can still be with him? Ethan was mad at me because of you. He wouldn't even glance at me when I was dying. But as soon as I mentioned I knew something about my sister, he rushed over. You always fall short compared to my sister, you have to admit that. If my sister was still alive, do you think you can still live the life you are living right now?]
Ines went pale looking at the photo. She made many excuses for herself, even saying the photo was edited, but Ethan was indeed wearing that suit when he left in the morning. The cufflink was the one she bought before she was pregnant. He had never worn it before, and she remembered clearly that today was the first time.
He really did go to see Silvia today, so the so-called company affairs might be a made-up excuse.
"Izzy, why don't you come in now that you're home? What are you doing standing at the door? Come in for dinner. Your meal is ready." Erica curiously looked at Ines.
Ines came back to her senses after hearing Erica's voice. She forced a smile, "I was thinking about some company matters."
"You're too serious. Gotta relax at home. Why are you still thinking about work? Come in, I made the soup you love for tonight. It's good for your body. You look pale. You must have been too tired lately."
After getting a definite answer, Ethan completely ruled out the guess that Ines was switched halfway. He was more inclined to the theory of apparent death.
"Okay. Keep today's matter a secret. Don't tell anyone, not even my wife."
Although Reid didn't understand, he could fulfill such a small request, "Don't worry. I won't tell anyone."
When Ethan got home, Ines was already asleep. Ethan played with the kids for a while and then went to his study. He did have some unfinished business tonight. Silvia had delayed his time. No matter whether her words were true or not, he could consider finding a breakthrough through Russel's wife.
Ines couldn't sleep. After Ethan entered the study, she quietly went to the study door. The study was specially set up for them, so it didn't have soundproofing like the old people's study. Moreover, the door wasn't fully closed, and Ines heard everything Ethan said on the phone.
He did go see Silvia tonight. It was just that Silvia wanted to collaborate with them to fight against Russel.
Ines let out a sigh of relief but was also a bit ticked off. She couldn't help but swear under her breath, "This guy's so unreliable. He said he wasn't gonna meet up with Silvia, but he ended up going anyway. Talk about not keeping his word."
Seeing that Ethan really did have stuff to do, Ines decided to hit the hay on her own, and she had no idea when Ethan slipped into the room.
