In the dead of night, Ines felt Ethan's arms tightly wrapped around her waist, causing her discomfort. As she gradually woke up and turned on the bedside lamp, she saw Ethan's forehead covered in cold sweat - clearly, he was having a nightmare.
"Ethan, wake up, are you having a bad dream?" Ines nudged Ethan lightly with her elbow.
There was no response from Ethan, who was still deeply immersed in his nightmare. Ines was tightly bound by him and couldn't move. All she could do was bite Ethan's chin lightly and raise her voice, "Ethan, wake up. It's just a nightmare."
Ethan still didn't respond, and his sleep talking was in bits and pieces, but Ines could hear everything clearly. "No, Leila...Don't...leave."
Ines' heart tightened instantly, and she lost all her strength. This man was actually calling out another woman's name while he was holding her. If Leila didn't leave, there wouldn't be a place for her by his side. Ines couldn't control her tears, and she started sobbing quietly.
After a while, Ethan suddenly woke up. His head was splitting, and his throat felt scratchy. The nightmare he just had kept replaying in his mind. He dreamt that Leila was still alive and had returned, and she was standing on the edge of a cliff with Ines, forcing him to choose between them. He ended up choosing Ines, but Leila jumped off the cliff with Ines.
He reached out to touch the spot next to him out of habit, only to find that it was cold. Clearly, Ines had been up for a while.
He checked the time and saw that it was only four-thirty in the morning. Normally, Ines would still be sound asleep at this time. Ethan was a bit uneasy. He called out Ines' name a few times but didn't get a response, so he got up to look for her.
As he was about to leave the bedroom, Ines walked in. He noticed that she looked terrible, and her eyes were filled with a complicated expression when she looked at him.
"Izzy, why are you up so early?"
Ines' gaze at Ethan was somewhat mocking, and her tone was very unpleasant. "If I didn't get up early, I wouldn't know what you've been up to behind my back these past few days."
Ines had never used this tone with him before, and Ethan furrowed his brows slightly. "Izzy, what's wrong? Speak your mind. I don't like the way you're talking."
"You don’t like it? Well, bear with it then." As Ines spoke, she raised the thing in her hand high in the air and slammed it down hard on Ethan's head.
He didn't catch it in time, and the thing scattered on the ground. He bent down to pick it up and saw that it was the DNA report he had brought back from the hospital tonight.
Before he had a chance to react, Ines quickly followed up with another question. "Ethan, don't tell me these two reports have nothing to do with me."
"How did I know? Ethan, when did you become so ignorant? Both you and I know how Silvia feels about you. If you meet with her, she would definitely find a way to tell me. She has many ways to let me know. She has already told me about the things you wanted to hide through a text message. Your attempt to hide things was just a waste of effort."
What she cared about wasn't his attempt to hide things, but the fact that he immediately rushed over as soon as he heard news from Silvia. What was he trying to imply?
"Izzy, calm down first." Seeing Ines getting emotional, Ethan stepped forward and gently patted her shoulder.
Ines violently swatted his hand away. "Don't touch me. I can't stand you right now. Ethan, how big is your heart that you have two women in it at the same time? You can whisper sweet nothings to me, but you could also call out another woman's name while holding me. Do you know how much of an insult this is to a woman?"
At that moment, she felt like she was being tortured by a blunt knife.
Ethan's expression kept changing. He knew he had had a nightmare, but he couldn't remember what he had said. He wanted to say something more, but Ines didn't give him the chance. She laughed silently, but tears uncontrollably slid down her cheeks. "A DNA report. How ridiculous. Ethan, what are you expecting? Are you still hoping that I am Leila? Let me tell you, I am Ines. Just Ines. I'm not your ex-girlfriend. I have nothing to do with her. It's absurd that you would have someone conduct such a report."
Ines paused for a second, then went on, "One report says we’re not related at all, and the other says me and Emma are half-sisters. You've been so careful, getting all three of us DNA tested, and this is what you end up with. Are you bummed out or what? Emma and I are the real sisters. And Leila? She's got squat to do with us."
