Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 407

Ethan wasn't sure why he wanted to take this test, maybe just for his own peace of mind. He personally collected hair samples from Ines, Silvia, and Emma and sent them to the hospital for DNA testing. He got an old classmate to help out, but the fastest he could get the results would be in the evening.

Just as he was leaving the hospital, he bumped into Phoebe. Phoebe seemed a bit surprised to see him alone, "Ethan, what brings you here? Where's Ines?"

Ethan's gaze flickered, and after a moment of hesitation, he replied, "I'm visiting a sick relative. Ines couldn't make it. What brings you here? Don't tell me you're ill?"

Phoebe chuckled, "Nah, I just ate something too spicy these past few days, got a bit of an upset stomach. Thought I'd come and check it out during my lunch break."

Ethan remembered that Ines also liked spicy food, just like Leila, "Well, that's good. By the way, do you have some time? I have some questions for you."

Phoebe checked her watch, then nodded, "Sure, I still have an hour before my shift starts."

Ethan and Phoebe headed to a small park near the hospital. Phoebe felt there was something off about Ethan, but she couldn't put her finger on it, "Are you going to ask me about Ines?"

"Yep, I'm a bit puzzled about something before Ines lost her memory."

"But didn't they already investigate the car accident?"

"No, I'm not asking about the car accident. You're Ines' best friend, did she change a lot after she lost her memory?"

Phoebe didn't understand why Ethan was asking this, but she naturally wouldn't hide anything about her best friend, "Ines did change a lot after losing her memory. Maybe it was because of all the pressure she had to bear at that time. She became more reserved than before, not as lively. Only occasionally would she show that side of her."

"What about her taste?" Ethan continued to probe.

"Her taste didn't change much. We've both enjoyed food since we were kids."

"Are you sure she's still the same person you knew?"

"Alright, I won't talk about this anymore. Actually, I don't really have anything to tell you about my sister. I just lied to get you here. I called you over mainly because I want to collaborate with you." Silvia dropped her smile, stating her intentions directly.

Ethan scoffed, looking at Silvia with a chilling gaze, "I don't see how we could be partners."

"Why not? We have a common enemy, Russel. He's the one who ruined the Galeana Group and indirectly caused my sister's death. I can help you deal with him." Silvia felt there was no need to beat around the bush at this poin. They all knew what was going on, and there was no need to deceive themselves.

"Just you?" Ethan looked at Silvia with contempt. Although he didn't know the relationship between her and Russel, he knew there must be a deep connection between them.

"Russel's ex-wife is Maria. She's been mentally deranged for over a decade. I'm currently her therapist, and after my treatment, she's gradually regaining her sanity. She has a lot of evidence of Russel's illegal activities, definitely more powerful than what you have. She trusts me a lot now. If you're willing to work with me, I can get this evidence and give it all to you. Then it'll be very easy to get him to step down. What do you think?"

Even though Maria's mental health issues weren't common knowledge, Ethan was in the loop. "Why would Maria want to take down her own husband? What's in it for her?"

"It's actually pretty straightforward; all of Maria's current problems have been cooked up by her husband. Maria's brother is also a big wheel in the business world, and Russel hitched his wagon to Maria's star for his own ambitions. But when Maria stumbled upon his shady dealings, there was no way Russel, being the suspicious type, would let it slide. However, Russel needed the financial backing of Maria's family, so offing Maria wasn't an option. Instead, he chose this roundabout way of messing with her mind and keeping her under wraps. Maria has long held a deep loathing for such an unscrupulous man and, of course, she wants to see him step down as soon as possible."
