Chapter 8
As soon as the policewoman covered me with a coat, I couldn’t control myself anymore and burst into tears.
I was lucky.
Because several police officers happened to be on duty nearby, they were able to arrive so quickly.
Otherwise, what I would be facing, I dare not imagine.
Sitting at the police station, drinking hot water, I couldn’t help but slap myself when I finally came to my
senses. Josie, you’re being dramatic.
Drowning sorrows with alcohol?
Compared to one’s own life and fortune, what does a little emotional pain matter?
Why couldn’t we get over it?
Is it impossible to get over it, or are you just forcing yourself to “create new words to express sorrow”?
When I came out of the police station, it was already daylight.
The warm sunshine on my body, even made me feel a bit like being reborn.
So, what else couldn’t be overcome?
To deal with this matter, I stayed in the local area for some time.
Halfway through, Steve gave me a call.
He asked me, “The wedding ring has arrived, when are you coming back?”
I thought he was sick, so I blocked and deleted him directly.
Later, his friend called me a few times, but I declined all of them.
Until our mutual friend contacted me. “Steve has already started preparing for the wedding, what’s going on with you guys?”
I frowned, “Then you remind him not to mess around, otherwise in the end, he will be the one who embarrasses himself.” “But he has to listen to us! You know, besides you, who else has he listened to!” I found it funny; he hasn’t listened to me.
“If it doesn’t work, you can let Vivian give it a try.”
“Vivian? Don’t you know? She broke up with Henry.”
This couldn’t help but make me curious.
“What happened?”
“I don’t know, Henry didn’t say either. I guess they just couldn’t get along. After all, they only met through blind dating, and there wasn’t that much emotional attachment. If they broke up, they broke up.”

I nodded and said nothing more.
The people and things that once caused me unbearable pain now sound like gossip about someone else.
Listening is not enough, it doesn’t sink in.
After another week, I boarded the return flight.
I don’t know how Steve found out about my flight, but he showed up at the airport. He said, “I’ll take you
home.”
I avoided his hand.
“We have ended.”
Unlike before, when Steve was rebellious, he is now somewhat melancholic.
The whole person seemed to have lost energy.
My refusal made him pause, his outstretched hand clenched into a fist, and then he sadly let it go.
I walked around him and went out.
I hailed a taxi.
He followed behind me until my residence.
He followed me into the elevator and followed me to the door.
He did not say a word from beginning to end.
I didn’t either.
I only glanced at him before the door closed.
Later at eleven o’clock, when I went downstairs to pick up the takeout, as soon as I opened the door, he was
sitting curled up with his long legs at my doorstep.
When he looked up at me, his helpless expression was like that of an abandoned puppy.
I endured and endured.
“What exactly did you want to do?”
Steve’s lips tightened into a straight line.
