Garan's eyes turned red as he felt his Barrier get damaged. He glared at the people he was facing.
They were still troublesome and they were going all-out now, no longer caring about the mana and spirit they had, causing Garan a bit of injury already.
This peak of battle outside was not isolated in the Northeast.
By this time, the war in many parts of the wall was already at its final phase, and some areas without powerhouses had all but given up. At this point, many of the enemies were just fighting because they didn't want to become slaves.
As people who joined the war, they were naturally promised some goods. They had been greedy for Alterra's wealth and goods, and they were promised to take whatever they could get their hands on—whatever fit in their space!
But they couldn't even get inside the walls!! What was this?!
Instead of gaining anything, they could even lose their lives!
But, even if they wanted to, they couldn't run! The mercenaries and people hired from the Village Center were oath-bound to help to the best of their abilities, short of putting their lives in direct danger.
The thing was, if they weren't half dead, then they couldn't leave without repercussions!
For the mercenaries who could leave after getting seriously injured, they were already inside the territory! They would no longer be able to escape!
It was even worse for the citizens, because now they had to fight because they did not want to become slaves! As people who went through the array, whether or not they headed back before the war was over, they would likely become slaves once the war was lost!
There were many who had seen hopelessness and tried to head back through the array, like what Fargo was still trying to do. However, monster mobs started appearing at the back line again—specifically, near the arrays!
They weren't as bad as the one brought in before—and some of these mobs were brought naturally by their presence—but this meant it was difficult to fight against the crowd and they could only move forward.
In contrast, the Alterran morale was high, and so was their cooperation. Among the Alterran forces, one plus one was way more than two. What two people could not beat, together they would be able to handle it with fair ease.
For example, Plaridel and Sammy, a fire and wind user, respectively. Plaridel would often use his firewall, and Sammy was there to help expand it beyond their individual capabilities.
The siege shields in their area were the fastest to burn out.
Not only that, they could redirect the mobs using massive flames, perhaps towards some impromptu trap that another team set up elsewhere.
Another example was Santos and Reuben, an earth swordsman and a water swordsman, respectively. Both of them excelled in close-ranged combat and they actually went down the walls too, prying away whoever wanted to climb up from below.
