"What?"
"In one area, it seems like an old spearman is blocking an entire sector," he said. Although everyone knew that person wouldn't be able to attack them unless he was willing to lose decades of hard work, very few people were actually brave enough to test that out.
"From a City?" Turocc rhetorically asked. "Which one?"
"I have no idea—but it's doubtful they'd meddle so much," Fargo said, but it was more to calm himself. "Perhaps they are just passing time."
"They can't attack us," he said. The costs of getting to that level was incomprehensible. There was no way they'd risk it to attack.
"Not to mention, they can't have them in all parts of the territory—I received no reports of other powerhouses. Just choose one with weaker guards."
He did not know this yet, but the reason why other areas made no reports was simply because the people holding the letters were taken care of. The one Gregor threw far away was one of them.
However, even if Fargo's side didn't know exactly where the powerhouses were, they would be able to see the fight from a distance and change locations as needed.
In any case, the plan made sense and—although they still hated and distrusted Fargo—this was the mindset they adopted as they planned out their next step.
At some point, new people arrived. They thought it'd just be a group requesting potions, but were surprised to see that it was a group of strongmen at least level 25.
There were more than a hundred people here. There were also various degrees of injury on them, but otherwise they were okay.
"You're from the Rongo Mercenary Team, yes?"
They nodded. The current leader, Maul, was the one who spoke. "We were supposed to follow Master Vara using the opening they created, but Alterra closed it too quickly and we had to run back."
"Tell us the details."
"A few strong elementalists appeared all of a sudden, creating a tall earth wall that blocked our way. The movements naturally separated our consolidated forces and, because we could only go two ways, they easily predicted where we'd be and attacked accordingly."
"There are dozens of mercenaries that appeared, some elementalists, but many of them are local," he said and paused. "I recognized a team—they're from the Takoda Mercenary team, from a City! I once had a conflict with them with a mission Southeast of us."
The only reason they were alive was because the other team didn't have bloodlust. However, Maul remembered they were from the South! What were they doing all the way over here?
"We immediately lost tens of people after that—including our team lead—and the rest of us had no choice but to pull back.
"Then, as we were jumping over the crowd, a gorge suddenly appeared and some of us fell down to get carried by the water. It was only because of our high levels and experience that we managed to get out of it in time."
There was silence in the area, and most of them were indignant that the strongest mercenary team based in their Town couldn't do much.
"What are your next plans?"
"We actually received an Aether letter from Master Vara, and they are hiding somewhere near the targets," Maul said. "They're waiting for more people to enter before they make a move."
After all, even if Vara was strong, he would be surrounded if he caused chaos prematurely. Not to mention, Alterra had somehow managed to secure City-level people so they had to be a lot more careful!
The plan was to create a lot of leaks and let their people enter to create chaos and distraction. This way, their elites would be able to take the targets—and, ideally, get the token—with relative ease!
But what was this now? Nearly 4 hours into the war and there was probably less than a hundred people who managed to get in alive—and who knew how many of them survived the past few hours!?
Turocc gritted his teeth, feeling extremely irksome and humiliated that everyone was being pushed like this.
As the strongest one there, he naturally took the lead.
He turned to look at the Rongo Mercenary team members. "Is this all of you?"
Maul shook his head. "We already gathered all the remaining mercenaries left outside," he said. "Other than us, there are at least a hundred more settled not far from here, but we'd need potions."
Teng looked at the logistics people and they handed them boxes of healing potions. Turocc nodded as he watched this, formulating the next steps in his mind. He was one of the previous lord's general, so naturally he was experienced in wars.
